First chemo for my mum

Hi everyone

My mum will be having her first chemo this coming Thursday. Before that she will have her pre-chemo on Tuesday. I am nervous and also the relieve finally she is getting her treatment started.

3 weekly cycle for 4-5 months before her surgery. She is having neoadjuvent chemo.

Can anyone tell me what to expect on her first pre chemo

Any tips and advises on her first chemo during her treatment and post treatment. What to take with her etc

Food and drinks that will maybe help with her symptoms

I bought lots of hygienic stuffs already from wipes to antibacterial gel.

Need to buy thermometer and my mum got type 2 diabetes as well. If there is anyone who also got diabetes, how were your symptoms and what helped you during your chemo journey

Thank you

Hello @sshini93
I’m glad your mum is finally having treatment.
My pre chemo was to talk through what would happen, have some blood tests, be weighed and measured. It might be different at your mum’s hospital though.
On the chemo day - you can be there a while so make sure your mum takes water, some snacks, something to read or a phone to play games on. I wore loose comfy clothes and took a small blanket that I could throw over me if I felt chilly. I also took my slippers.
Wet wipes and hand gel are very good idea too.
And anything you know will make your mum feel comfy.
After chemo make sure mum keeps drinking lots of water to flush the chemo out and rests.
Your mum is very blessed to have such a caring daughter. She must be very proud of you.
Sending you both a hug. Xx

Hi, hope it goes well for your mum.
Best tip I was given was to wear pull on trousers, leggings etc. She will be connected to a drip and if she needs the toilet during treatment, (I always did), she will have to take the drip with her and it’s far easier than messing with a zip, buttons belt etc as one hand is virtually useless!

Thank you so much for your replies @bigpickle @jayesse  Thank you for sharing all these tips and advises  I have mixed emotions, happy that finally she is getting her treatment, we live in West Midlands and the hospital was very quick from day 1  At the same time nervous, mainly the side effects, I believe once I experience my mums first treatment and post treatment. I will have an idea
