Hey ladies,
I had my first bc diagnosis aged 39 in 2014, triple positive, lumpectomy, lump was on side of left boob so didn’t alter breast really at all. Had chemo first and herceptin and rads after surgery. No node involvement, only sentinel node removed. Tamoxifen for ten years which was fine.
Fast forward to Christmas 2025, boob felt a bit swollen so went to get checked out, turns out it was a new primary, this time her 2 positive only. Had to go through chemo again - finished on Friday- hurrah! Had scans half way through and because the lump had shrunk so much the surgeon started talking about a lumpectomy, whereas all the way through both he and the onc were talking about a masectomy….i was a bit confused…. This time the lump is right in the middle of the breast and behind fibrosis, thats why i couldn’t feel it and only realised something was wrong when it caused a swelling in the whole breast.
I am now really unsure what to do….I am having another ultrasound and mammo next week and then seeing the surgeon again to confirm surgery.
my aunt has just had the diep and had complications in the first week with necrosis and is still back and forth to the hospital every week - it’s been 5 weeks now as the new skin isn’t healing. Not gonna lie right now she doesn’t look to good and I’m not keen on the massive scar on her stomach 
My understanding is I can’t have an implant anyway as I’ve had radiotherapy to that boob.
Have any of you been in this situation and what did you do? Why would I be offered a lumpectomy if it wasn’t safe to do so after all the first talk of it being a definite masectomy….I’ve heard many stories of ladies having masectomies and still getting cancer growing in the skin or chest wall or on the scar.
I obviously don’t want to go through this a third time….
