Sorry you find yourself going through all of this again after your second diagnosis. I was diagnosed with a local recurrence in October 2024.
I didn’t have to have chemo the second time round, thankfully. That meant for me though, I wasn’t given the choice of a lumpectomy or mastectomy but had to go straight with the mastectomy.
They may now be giving you the option of a lumpectomy because the chemo has shrunk it enough not to misshape you too badly. It’s well worth asking questions of the surgeon and any reconstruction surgeons you may be able to talk to as well around it though to help you make the choice. As to whether it comes back again though does seem to be very individual entirely (luck of the draw) unfortunately regardless of what surgery, treatment we each decide to have/not have.
I was also told I couldn’t have an implant due to having had radiotherapy previously. I ended up staying flat as I only ever wanted a one and done surgery but was warned that it is very unlikely to get it.
