1 down, 5 to go!

1 down, 5 to go!

1 down, 5 to go! Had my first of 6 FEC sessions last week. Oh I was soooo sick! It took about 8 days to wear off. I had heartburn, that HORRIBLE taste in my mouth has only just gone, tiredness (haven’t had to have an afternoon nap for YEARS!), constipation, nausea all the time…
told my family I wasn’t having any more chemo!
BUT just like you all told me, it passes. Feeling really good today (although dreading my next one on Jun 12th) and have got a hat and a few bandanas all ready. I went on the live chat last week for all your suggestions on how to cope with the taste and THANK YOU to you all, sparkling water has been a lifesaver. So I just wanted to say thanks for getting me through it. I have never felt so bad in my life but being able to say 1 down, 5 to go helps!

Hi Katie

You are 6 days behind me. You sound like you had a bit worse time than me as I didn’t have the sickness.

Good luck for the next 5. My next one is next Wednesday

Oh Katie know how you feel. felt exactly the same way - I cant believe that I have made it - I said to my daughter today "do you know ive bypassed 6 months not knowing what even the weather was like ------ but to be honest it went quite quick and I am getting better day by day.

Please dont be frightened of the side effects - with me they seemed to be different each time - ask if you have any worries - my constipation was a nightmare on one of my chemos (but it was my fault because I felt embarrased to ask about it), also had aches and pains everywhere.

take care of yourself - you brave little solider

lots of love

Diane

Hi Katie
I had my first FEC last week too but unlike you have had very limited side-effects. Make sure you have a list of all your side-effects when you go back as they should try and change your meds to try and counter these. Just because the first was bad it doesnt mean the second will be either… so although I did well the first time round Im not counting my chickens before theyre hatched! Like you though Im so pleased to be able to say that with 1 down theres only 5 to go, only problem for me is that my last 3 are Taxotere: a real bugger Im told!!
Look after yourself,

Hi Katie

Like you I have had my problems on and off with sickness heartburn etc you can get meds to help with all of it I have now got ondasetron melts from my dr 8mg that melt on the tongue for sickness and heartburn tabs also. I am down to my last 2 FEC and God has this one come around quick after being so sick again with my forth, 2 and 3 were fine…

hope you feel better I know what you mean about not wanting it…

No 2 Next Week Hi Katie - like you, I am one down, five to go - next one next Friday. I did have the same sickness - but was OK six days later when my appetite came flooding back and I haven’t stopped eating since. Like the advice given to you, my GP also recommended a change of anti-sickness drugs. Heartburn - was just like my pregnancies and I took Gaviscon, after checking with GP.

So far hair has not gone, although I am thrilled with my new wig and prefer it to the short, natural coloured mop that is my real hair.

I will let you know how I get on next week - I have written off Saturday - Wednesday, but may be lucky…

Pineapple is supposed to be good for the mouth problems as well, although during my first five days last time, I hardly ate a thing…

LOL
