10000 genomes

Has anyone been involved in the genomes study? Curious about how long results took to come back? Whether anything was found?

I’m taking part but waiting to arrange a date to provide my sample.

Hi

I first met with the genetics counsellor in January this year.  Initially they thought I may have Cowden Syndrome but I tested negative for the PTEN mutation, negative also for BRCA 1 and 2, which they then tested for.  Still uncertain what is going on in my family or for me (I’ve had two primaries).

Back from my first meeting with the Genetics Consultant today.  I may have Cowden Like Syndrome but it’s still uncertain.  Anyway, I’m rambling a bit but have today said I would be interested in being part of the 100000 genome programme.  I was given a leaflet, which I assume you have also, and was shocked to see that it means all our DNA will be mapped.  I was cautioned that the consent process is lengthy, as they may find other genetic problems.

I don’t know how long it will take, but it would be good to know, so hopefully others will join in with this thread.  I’m assuming quite a long time, with 3 billion (!!!) things to map!
