ps Iāll find out on Thursday how long it is until you can swim after Rads. Anyone know??
Hey ladies
Thereās a thread for the girls who are away to cp. Think itās something like ābcc girlies trip to cpā or something like that. Have posted on there that there are a few of us fancy it. It would be fantastic to actually meet you all in person!
Had a look at Alās pics she has on facebookā¦looks like theyāre having a fab timeā¦all those bald women!
Hxx
Lin
on my leaflet from the hospital it says donāt swim until your skin is back to normal, not sure how long this takes, might vary from person to person. Iāve had five sessions and my skin doesnāt hurt although my breast is more tender and the nipple is ultra-sensitive, bit like Iāve gone back 3 months in recovery from surgery. Iāll let you know what happens over the next two weeks.
Helen.
Hi All,
Helen - Oooh sounds a bit sore but thanks for the info on swimming and Rads. I suppose if we did get to CP then I would love to be able to swim.
Hayz - Hope you are recovering well from your last lot. Looked at the pics from CP. Oh looks funā¦ what a lot of bottles!! particularly of the booze kind LOL.
Loocie - Yeh I lost 4 fingernails. I donāt think I painted them in time. Forgot - something about UV rays reacting with Tax. But havenāt had much UV rays on them as I have been indoors for the best part of 2 weeks during the snow. Talking of which I going out, out, out this week. Just off actually.
Lots love to all having the treatment or recovering from s/eās this week.
Got LGFB on Wednesday - really looking forward to it, particularly to learning how to powder in eyebrows. OMG hope vanity is not setting in!!
Lynn x
Lin, have a fab time at LGFB, I thought it was great. I was even a bit disappointed that I still had hair and eyebrows so I didnāt need to draw new ones lol.
Just had a major shock at the dentist. Broke a filling last Nov during chemo and couldnāt do anything about it till today. Chipped another tooth last night whilst eating crunchy crackling (OH says served me right for eating unhealthy food but what does he know?). So dentist had to fill both teeth with white fillings and when he put one of them in that metal clamp thing, half of the rest of the tooth snapped off!
Anyway, he warned me that the chemo has permanently caused damage to the enamel on my teeth - apparently it changed my saliva and all that dry mouth and changes such as the mouth ulcers has damaged the enamel so that all my teeth are very fragile and liable to break at any time.
Great, another thing to worry about. He said that there is nothing that can be done other than to drink copious amounts of water - permanently carry around a water bottle and sip from it. He also said that radiotherapy can do the same thing, as can the venlofaxine I am taking. So now I have the prospect of my fillings falling out very quickly and my teeth falling apart in my mouth - another thing to blame on blo*dy BC!
So be warned ladies, make sure you drink as much water as possible ( and I donāt think that includes stuff like coke etc.) right through chemo and rads to make sure you minimise any damage.
Ā£266 bill later - that was a bit of a shock for two fillings. And even though Iām on ESA Iām not entitled to free dental as Iām not on means tested benefits. Great, how am I supposed to pay for that then, thatās the equivalent of 3 weeks benefits?
Rads going fine, though, no problem other than a bit of tiredness which after chemo, is nothing.
Hope youāre all having a good week. Iām planning on going to the gym tomorrow - must do it at some time lol.
all the best
Helen.
Criky,
I went away!!! It can happen and it was amazing!!! Pool, sun, food, beer and karaoke till 4 in the morning. Never thought it would happen again but it can!!! So for all of you just starting it all, IT WILL GET BETTER!
Will have to clear a week to read all the new posts! Everyone has been really busy. It is really nice to see that our posts may have helped some people and to see how everyone is coping now.
Sorry not been very detailed about the stuff you have been reading. Have tried not to read anything really. I think itās a bit like the lottery and there is not much we can do either way.
There doesnāt seem to be any hard and fast rules to who gets this. If it was everyone who drunk a little too much red wine then there may be a point, but it seems totally random to me!! Well, thatās the way i am thinking about things. There are loads of illnesses we could get or not get or accidents we could have or not have. Iād drive myself mad thinking about them all!!
Obviously i think about it alot and it is always there making everything about 20% less enjoyable than it used to be, just think we have to find a way of not constantly worrying about it!
Hope everyone is getting on ok, and any advice about the rads planning thing would be good. I just read to slap loads of aqueous cream on a couple of weeks before starting.
To those just going to start chemo, like the ladies have said, be kind to yourself, give yourself treats and nice times for your good days. We are all here for any questions.
xx
Hi ladies,
Everyone seems to be a bit happier this week thank goodness.
Wow Helen, didnāt know Venlaflaxine can affect your teeth, Iāve been on it for a few years but havenāt noticed a problem, yet!!!
Lynn, lucky you going to LGFB, hope you enjoy it. I must try and get on one, popped into Clinique in Sutton and was shown how to do my eyebrows and asked for a waterproof eye pencil as I have Loocies runny eye problem. They helped a bit but wouldnāt tell me some tricks as they are only for those going to LGFB!!! Donāt make a waterproof eye pencil so have to try to remember to wipe my eye carefully!! Still havenāt mastered the eyelashes but apparently if you have the lashes applied that last for a couple of weeks, they are very good.
Both my thumb nails are peeling up from the cuticle so that is looking quite attractive. Didnāt bother with dark nail varnish as my nails are rubbish anyway. Taught two craft classes yesterday demonstrating how to use a type of pen so was very concious of my peeling yellow nails, wig, tears dripping down my face taking any eye pencil with them and probably smudged eyebrows that made me look like Harry Potter. Apart from that it went well!!!
Last chemo this week YAY, good luck everyone else having cocktils this week, Karen I know you are the same day as me, last one for you too!!!
Hope everyone else is doing ok, keep smiling!!
Love Jane xx

Good Luck to the Lucky ladies having their last Chemo this weekā¦I canāt wait to join you 2 weeks on Thursdayā¦not that Iām counting!!
Hope everyone else is doing well!

just registered, first time on this site. Need a bit of support from you all, very close relative going through what you are all going through. She needs to see all these messages, but too soon for her as yet. Iām trying to support her through this maze. Thanks for all your comments which help me understand it better. Iām a survivor of melanoma, so been there myself, but so hard to watch a loved one so scared.
Hi partyplanner,
Very sorry about your friend. Maybe you should just show her a few messages from people at the same place in the journey. She will be fine especially as she has a lovely friend like you. That is very important.

Hi Partyplanner
Very sorry to hear about your friend and we all know how scared it is at first but after reading some of these comments Iām sure she will feel happier after the initial shock. I am about to start my 1st chemo on Thursday so if sheās at this stage and wants to compare notes then Iām all for it. Am looking forward to getting 1st one over with so I know what to expect.
This site has helped me no end to understand thatās it ok to feel like sh*t and to cry at anytime although mainly its the colliewobbles with me rather than the tears.
Love to all
Babs xx
Babs, I too have my first chemo Thursday, scared but also want to get on with it. Love to here how you get on. Good Luck.
Anne xx
Hi Anne
Best of luck to you too and to any others just starting chemo. It will be good to compare notes Anne and I will report back later.
xx
Hi Ladies,
Hi Anne and Babs, good luck to both of you on Thursday, once youāve done your first the time will fly. Are either of you going to be a Guildford? Do let us know how you are doing.
LynB glad you had a great time at CP, hope all goes well tomorrow last one for you too.
Karen good luck to you too, hope its not so bad for you this time.
Trumpet glad you got away bet you enjoyed it.
Partyplanner, what a great friend you are, you will get lots of support here.
Should find out more about rads tomorrow, Iām assuming my blood test will be ok, has been fine so far, must remember to take my steroids tomorrow morning. Canāt believe itāll be for the last time. Suppose I should also find out about what meds Iāll be on, Tamoxifen or similar. Donāt know whether to read up about the possible SEās or just wait and see what happens.
Keep smiling ladies, the snow is coming back!!!
Take care,
Love Jane xx
Jane,
Whats a Guildford?? Also can anyone advise what I should eat before I go? Chemo is planned for 2 pm. I know there are lots of SEās and no one knows how they are going to react, got my head round poss losing my hair (have lots of lovely scarfs and seeing wig man today). Main worry is sickness, hate being sick, have anti wrist bands and wll do anything not to be sick
Thanks for all your support, will keep you posted and am sure will be back asking for advice.
Anne xx
Hi Anne,
Sorry its my chemo brain, Iām somewhat away with the fairies at the moment!!! I meant to say anyone at Guildford which is the place where I will be having my cocktail tomorrow!!!
I think I was told to eat something like porridge before chemo, unfortunately my porridge skills are not brilliant so I ended up having a couple of pieces of toast. My appts then were at 11.30 so I didnāt need to eat anything else before. I think the most important thing the ladies here will tell you is drink, drink, drink. I know the other girls here will give you more advice on what to eat before.
As for the sickness, I used to have a phobia about it and had counselling and all sorts so I know how you feel. My kids cured me of it in the end!!! Take all the antisickness tabs they give you. I didnāt feel too bad on the first one and was only sick once after the second and third. A lot of ladies donāt even have that. Try not to worry too much, youāll be fine. The Tax youāll be pleased to know doesnāt usually make you feel sick at all. I certainly havenāt felt sick with it at all.
Before you know it you will be like us at the end of chemo, it doesnāt seem long ago I was asking the same questions as you.
Let us know how you get on, we are all here for you,
Love Jane xx
