So glad I have stumbled across these forums - they make me feel like I am not alone.
First FEC last Tuesday- slight nausea but not too bad. But today, feel like I have been run over by a bus! How can you feel so tired and yet not be able to sleep.
Main thing I would like to ask is has anyone else woken up with a very, very, red face! It seems to go down as day goes on and temp is OK - I guesss its just one of the weird s/effects. This has happened for last 3 days.
Any comments welcome and thanks for all your positive input - am terrified of the hair loss- girl thing!
Hi lynmark.
The red face you are describing is from the steroids. Have a dig in and have a moochy through the boards and you will find chemo pages, past and present. Best way many of us have found is to tag onto one for the month you are starting and chat with others at the same stage as you.
Not to worry about the hair. It really isn’t nice and it will happen, but we are here to listen to your woes. You aren’t alone.
I’ve done FEC T and finished a little while back. I found the se’s could be quite nasty, but there wasn’t anything that would stop me from doing it again if I had to. Don’t suffer in silence, speak up :o)
Welcome x
Great response Eltiks,I agree completely. I had acne on FEC and a minor skin reaction on Tax. And yes, the run over by a bus feeling - for me lasted about 3 days then I picked up again.
You can and will do this. Be gentle with yourself, take the advice to care for your skin, mouth and tum, and seek help anytime you need it.
Cut your hair as short as you can, then it won’t feel so bad when you lose it. Better not to shave it as you need time to get used to it short first.
Not wishing to contradict Jennifer, cos we’re all different, and not knowing your circumstances, I was told not to get my hair cut too short (it was very long before starting treatment) so had it cut to chin length (big enough trauma to start off with!) and then shaved once the bulk of it fell out. I know some people prefer to have it cut uber short but others prefer to keep it a bit longer. All I would say is your scalp can get very sore when the hair falls out and longer hair ‘pulls’ more (described by some as like a very very tight pony tail) and ht eonly way to get releif is to buzz cut or shave it.
It’s up to you and you’ll cope when the time comes (mine was about 10 days after FEC 1 I’m afraid).
I know you don’t want to know all this so big massive HUG
I had my hair cut short feel much better that seeing your hair fall out also my head was hurting.

I finished my FEC T back in May and fortunately didn’t have any skin irritations and only slight sickness. As for my hair I agree with revcat, I had a long bob which i did have some cut off but lost mine about 10 days after FEC 1 and found this quite painful so i decided to shave it off and be done with it. At the time it was me still in control and my decision so that all helped and i got my husband to help me so that it wasnt patchy anywhere. I was so pleased with myself that i put full make-up on and had my photo taken and sent it to all my friends titled ‘do i look good naked’. One tip you may want to know is i am quite tanned so my scalp looked very white so i used spray fake tan (loreal facial tan) on my head and it worked a treat. lol xx
Thanks Ellticks- good idea to join the girls who have started same time as me.I will try that.
Red face not too bad today - dont look quite like a post box!
Still panicking about the hair - only question I keep asking is will it grow back- I know it will but its like I need that constant reassurance!
Thanks for all your tips girls - is really helping
Hugs to all xx
