1st rads treatment of 25

Hi,
Had my first zap today and i thought it was fine until i went to the loo to put some gel on my boob before going to work. I was really surprised to see my nipple looked different and felt very dry. I smothered it with Radiance Gel (no metals) and have reapplied it tonight and it’s looking better. I really thought it would be about no. 10 before i had to worry about nipple/skin, would appreciate any advice. Do you have to ask the nurses for Aquaeus cream?

hi fitgirl,
Sorry to hear you have had immediate effects. We are all individuals and so are our treatments, I was ok till a while in so was quite lucky. I’ve just had more rads to spine/ribs as have secondarys in bone and this time got dry quickly. As you haven’t been given aquaeus cream I’d definetly mention your reaction at next session and ask them to give you some, it won’t fully stop problem but will help.
Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

i satarated using aqueous cream right after my first rads. I was told by my rads team to buy some aqueous cream myself, its about £2 a tub.

Each hosp is different. I was given several tubes of aqueous cream at my planning session and also some gel pads for the fridge during treatment.

I had 25 , and was lucky , no reaction until about no 12 . I used aloe vera , which I found marvolous , plus the hospital gave me some small tubes of cream for the nipple area.
I was told to start using a cream from the very first treatment .
Good luck ,
Kris

Hi fitgirl,

Just had my fourth and, like you, I noticed a difference immediately. Definitely a change in colour and texture, but I’d been using aqueous cream for a week beforehand as per the advice on here, so the dryness hasn’t been a problem yet. I’m still slapping it on 2-3 times a day and whilst its a bit of a bore and very sticky, I’m sure it’ll be well worth the effort.

I was surprised that I was only told at the first appointment what product I could and couldn’t use, which seemed a bit daft as I could’ve turned up covered in scented body lotion and wearing deodorant containing aluminium if I hadn’t done my homework previously. But hey, its another huge plus point for this marvellous forum :o)

Hi,

Thanks everyone for getting back to me with advice. I think this forum is really great by the way!

I told the nurse today about the dryness and she gave me a tube of Aqueous cream, so will use that and the gel i have. I have aloe vera gel as well, so i don’t think i’ll run out for a wee while yet! Jackwagstaff Has the nipple cream helped?

Thanks again to everyone for replying.

Take care and have a fab weekend.

Hi Debs,

Just read your comment after i posted my last one.

You are lucky that they gave you Aqueous cream in advance, i had only heard the name of it from this forum and had to ask for it, though i’m sure they would have been asking me how my boob was. I too have been reading up but missed the bit about applying the cream a week in advance! In saying that i have been massaging Vit E oil onto my boob -mainly the scar area, so it has been getting well moisturised! I was told not to shave under the arm or use deodorants even though i’m not getting rads to the underarm… I’ve also been washing the area with Simple soap so doing my best for a good run at the rads!!

The nurse said i was only to use Aqueous or Aloe Vera.

Anyway, have to go thanks for your help.
Take care

Hi, just thought I’d join in as I’ve had 10th rads today out of my 15. So far so good! Only a bit of pinkness on the affected boob. A friend who had had rads advised me to slather on the aqueous from a week before treatment so I did this and am contiuing to apply it very liberally! In case it helps, nurses at my hospital have advised that the side effects will peak about 10-14 days after treatment finishes.

Good luck everyone having treatment.
