2 negative ultrasounds, very palpable lump!!! help!

Hello, I live in California, but this is one of the best forums I’ve found. I’m 25, and about a month ago, I noticed a rubbery lump right below where my heart would be but on my right side and in the breast tissue. I saw my gynocologist, who referred me to a breast clinic. There I had an ultrasound which was normal. Unsatisfied, I went to UCLA breast center and met with a surgeon. She did another ultrasound, and again, it seemd normal. Even when they put the want right over the lump, which is quite big, they just saw normal breast tissue. On my left side, there is no lump, and the breast tissue doesn’t even extend up that high. I’m confused and very worried. I can’t sleep at night, and it’s driving a wedge between my husband an me. I called the surgeon and told her I wanted it out, and I’m scheduled for a lumpectomy in 2 weeks. Does anyone know why my lump wouldn’t show on either ultrasound? Thanks in advance!

Hi Michelle

Sorry you’re having this trouble. I’m afraid I don’t have an answer. My experience is that the mammogram doesn’t always give a clear view, so they then go to ultrasound to be sure. I can’t think why your doc can’t tell you definitively what it is. However, I think pushing for a lumpectomy and having that done is a good idea. The biggest thing is that you need to feel happy that there is nothing to worry about, and if the lumpectomy does that, then it’s the right thing to do.

Take care, stay positive.
