2 week after surgery and starting to get pain

I’m not sure why it is more painful now than just after I had the op. Also my arm is painful too. I am still trying to do the exercises.

I’m still quite badly bruised and also still have a drain in.

I know 2 weeks isn’t long, but I expected it to be painful after the op and then slowly get better.

Hi Peacock,
I had my mastectomy on the 11th November and although i had the chest drains removed, I am still having to go back in 2/3 times a week to have fluid drained off and like you I also am in a lot of pain.I keep taking the painkillers but I’m not sure they really help at the moment.
I found that the chest drain itself was very uncomfortable as it was stitched under the skin - (i forgot, got the tube caught down the side of the chair and stood up!!!) - I think you’ll find more relief once it’s removed as you’ll not have tow it round with you everywhere!
I have been told it’s still early days, and all internal healing will take time - time is a healer and all that, we just have to patient!!
Take care of yourself

Hi Girls

If nerve endings have been damaged, as they repair, you will get more pain - are they shooting type pains?
The drain def causes pain while its in - is such a relief when it comes out

Take care
Take the pain killers regularly too rather than as and when as they have a cumulative effect

Hello

Since my posting I had the drain removed and yes, it did help the soreness considerably. They mentioned I might need to have it drained off, but so far it doesn’t appear any different than before so I am assuming it is ok.

I am able to wear my bra now with the softy inside, but only since yesterday as it was too sore before.

The scar is slowly healing, although it feels like a giant sausage - did anyone else have this? I was expecting to be absolutely flat but in fact you can still see just the tiniest of cleavage, which is ok but the boob reminds me of a man boob!

The other thing is, I am doing my exercises and find it is uncomfortable but I know you have to do them even despite this. However, I am getting more pain in my arm now and my hand feels like pins and needles.

Maybe I should stay on the painkillers as you suggested, but I just hate taking things after so much poison already in my body.

Has anyone been told to massage their scars? The physio I am seeing for fluid retention in the legs has suggested it will help movement of the arm and shoulder but it hasn’t been mentioned to me before.

Take care

Thank you Magsi I’ve bookmarked it and will print off the PDF exercises.

I’m not sure what a Whisper Back is? But thank you anyway.

A year on, how are you doing now? Have you got good use of your arm and shoulder and did you suffer any particular problems, hope you don’t mind me asking it’s just useful to hear what might or might not happen.
