Hi…newbie here. I found a lump about 6 weeks ago, and on the day I phoned my GP to see a female (there was a 10 day wait!) my routine mammogram came through. I am 55 and never been invited before. I was recalled, had the appointment yesterday. Radiographer said it looked like good news as the lump was circular and in one place, but the ultrasound Dr said that it was definitely not a cyst and in her opinion it looked very suspicious and highly likely to be BC; she checked lymph nodes with ultrasound and found nothing there. I then had a biopsy and get the results on 9 Jan. The BCN told me that likely treatment would be a lumpectomy followed by radiation and that modern treatments were very successful. I am so glad I have found this site and forum and have been reassured by much of the content. Made the decision not to tell anyone except my husband until after results are out, as I want a definite diagnosis before ruining everyone’s Christmas
Like many posts I’ve read, I’m going from ‘perhaps she’s made a mistake and the tests will be negative’ to thinking the worst as I now have a backache and cough! Sorry if I sound like I’m whingeing…
Hello Maryland,
Everyone says this is the worst time, the waiting is just awful and sooooo scary. Your mind goes into overdrive, you just can’t help it, no matter how hard you try!! Your feelings are normal. Hopefully because this is such a busy time you will not have too much time to think, all the very best for your appointment on the 9th, fingers crossed, take care xx
Hi Maryland.
Good luck for the 9th. If you feel you don’t want to tell anyone then you do what’s best. I told everyone as I was diagnosed the same day but had to have full confirmation a week later.
Had a couple of emotional weeks but now got date for op 28th and after surgery other treatment plans.
But hopefully your results will be good.
Enjoy christmas if you can
Love fran xx
Hi Maryland
I am sorry to read you are going through such a worrying time at the moment. As well as the support you receive on here if you need someone to talk things through with before the 9th please do give the BCC helpline a call, it will be open again from 9 to 5pm on Wednesday the 28th. Here you can share your concerns with a trained member of staff who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information. The number to call is 0808 800 6000.
