Hi all
Does anybody know if it is true that most breast cancers recur in the first two years and once you pass that it is less likely to come back?

I do not think that is necessarily true. I had 17 years gap before my BC recurred and I am now hoping for another 17.
I believe its true that many recurrences occur within the first two years…however unlike many other cancers breast cancer can return even 10 or 20 years after original dx, my aunt was dx with bone mets 15yrs after original dx.
Olivia07…heres to your next 17 years!! x

Alise, I had an aunt who had an aggressive BC way back in the early 1970s. She took part in one of the first chemo trials which was for the only drug they had developed, something called 5FU. Her BC never came back and she died last year at the age of 83, of things related to old age.
I had nearly 10 years of remission before mine came back - think it may depend on the type of breast cancer you’ve had.

The more replies you get to this alise, you will realise just how different we all are. Even those with the same type of cancer will produce a variety of answers. For myself mine was ER/PR negative and assumed to be HER2+++ (I don’t think it was known about 17 yrs ago) The prognosis was not good - but my first recurrance was 6 years later. It’s a pity we dont have profiles here yet but you can read more of my story on www.bcpals.org.uk
