Hello,
I felt a hard area at the top of my right breast about 4 months ago but put it down to the new birth control pill I’d started taking a month earlier - lots of internet research (I know I know) said that it often causes lumpy bumpy boobs so I just kept an eye on it and nothing seemed to change. (In hindsight I know I should have gone to the doctors straight away and I keep beating myself up about this!). It is a band of thick, hard and painless tissue, rather than a defined lump - there are no definite borders which is why I am so scared.
Fast forward 4 months 1 doctors appointment and already some waiting, my breast is now bigger than the other and I’ve just found some lumps deep in my armpit - movable and at least two, one being the size of a kidney bean and the other smaller than a pea. I’ve been checking in there every day for at least the last 2 weeks, and I found these over the last few days.
Obviously I’m so so scared, I can’t stop crying and panicking. Should I try and get an earlier appointment or is it okay to wait until Monday? I am conscious of my armpit feeling thicker without even touching it, especially when lying down as my breast falls to the outside of my chest.
I know none of you can diagnose me, but any comforting words or anything nice would be lovely! Can you still have these symptoms and have benign results?
Sorry this is so long but I just needed to get it out somewhere!
x

Hi emily
So sorry you find yourself here. However, in our situation, it is one of the best places to be for info etc.
As far as waiting for Monday is concerned, guidelines say that we should be seen within two weeks of being referred to the breast clinic. If you can get an earlier appointment, all the better for your own peace of mind. But even if you do get seen this week, you might still have to wait one week for the results - unless your clinic has the fast track system where you get results the same day. Waiting is the worst thing of all, but once we find out what we are dealing with and a treatment plan is in place, we feel more in control.
I’m sending you big hugs and hoping for a good outcome for you. Good luck for your appointment, whether this week, or on Monday.

HI Emily
Sorry you find yourself here and at such a young age too.
Is your appointment on Monday for the GP or the breast clinic? If it’s for the breast clinic I doubt you’d get an earlier appointment as there’s only tomorrow.
If it’s for your GP, phone first thing in the morning, say you’ve found lumps in your breast/armpit and you should be seen that day…and don’t take no for an answer! Don’t be fobbed off by anyone saying it can’t be breast cancer because of your age (and I’m not saying that it is bc)…you have a right to be referrred to the breast care clinic quickly whatever age you are.
(((hugs))) Maggie xx
When I phoned my GP to get an appointment when I found the lump they were giving me one for 4 days later until I said I’d found a lump and I got an appointment that morning.
Hi Emiy, I’d ring docs in the morning to see if they can see you but if not don’t panic, waiting until Monday will not make much difference, main thing is when you see the gp don’t be fobbed off because of you age, cancer is uncommon at your age but not unkown so insist on a referral to the breast clinic, this should happen within 2 weeks and they will do all the tests. The majority of referrals at not cancer but if it is you will get the treatment that you need an lots of support here. God luck xx
It is the appointment for the breast clinic that I have on Monday. When I saw the doctor nearly 2 weeks ago now I felt like he did just fob me off and tell me I was too young, he didnt feel the rest of my breasts even when I pointed out changes there too, and only felt the lump for seconds - at least he agreed to refer me to the breast clinic though (I wouldn’t have left until he did!).
Every little ache and pain seems magnified by 1000 at the moment as I’m sure you can all understand
Thank you for the replies, it’s comforting knowing there are lots of kind hearted people here xxx
Hi Emily, Just wanted to say good luck for Monday, nothing anyone can say can make things easier for you, but Monday isn’t too long to wait now, i found that every ache and pain seemed a 1000 times worse, and although my outcome was BC there were lots of young women at the clinic on the same day that had a benign diagnosis, so try to get through this weekend, go shopping or do something nice to take your mind off of it, i really hope you get a good outcome, big hugs x
thank you so much, I’ll be back here after my appointment once I know some more hopefully x
today ive noticed two extra swollen lymph nodes under my left jaw (there’s always been one there) but they’re on the opposite side to my annoying breast so I hope they’re just down to my allergies however my collarbone looks less defined than the other one so I’m freaking out. Can all these things pop up together so quickly?!
I just want to wish you good luck at the clinic tomorrow. I have an appointment at the breast clinic tomorrow too. My appointment is at 3pm what time is yours?
Mine is at 11.30. Good luck to you too!
Does anyone know if I should expect any kind of results on the same day?
Hi emily
It depends on whether your breast clinic run a ‘fast track’ system where results are given on the same day. Usually though you will probably have to wait at least one week. Good luck for tomorrow.
pg xx
You probably won’t get any results on the day but they will probably let you know if they find anything suspicious. If they don’t say anything, make sure you’re proactive and ask!
Good luck and let us know how you get on xx
I went to the clinic expecting the full works - scan and maybe biopsy if it was needed - instead just got a consultation and ‘if you’re lucky you might get an ultrasound today’. Off I pop back over to the reception to book myself in and get ‘OK our next appointment is next Wednesday’. WHAT?! Now I have to wait over another week just to get what I expected to get yesterday?!
I feel like because of my age I’m not being taken seriously. The consultant was very nice but barely even examined me, just kept mentioning my age and just shrugged off the kidney bean sized lump and other little ones around it in my armpit.
My boyfriend is telling me that it must be nothing to worry about if the doctor didn’t think so but my breast is constantly getting larger and my collarbone is swollen…
Hi Emily, I’m sorry you got brushed off because of your age. I also had an appointment yesterday at the breast clinic and basically got treated the same. Got laughed at by the doas when I was explaining my symptoms, told I was too young for mammogram and could only have ultrasound. ultrasound showed nothing at all so was told go home it’s nothing!
When you have your ultrasound next week pls make sure they do it properly and you don’t get fobbed off like me. i am going back to GP tomorrow to complain and get second opinion. I wish you all the best x
I called up today and told them I had new symptoms, and they miraculously had an appointment free on Friday! So that’s better than before. I went to the doctors too and told them about my aches and lumps and pains and told her that I didn’t feel like I’d been treated fairly at the clinic.
Definitely go and ask for that second opinion, we know when our bodies don’t feel right and something must be done about it, for our piece of mind at least!
