34 years old, lump in right boob!!! waiting for scan.

hi all, ive got a pea like lump in my right boob, ive been to the hospital today to the breast clinic, i was proded and poked and told to come back on monday for a scan and needle test. im really scared and not sure what to expect, any advice or info would be greatly appreciated, thank you xxxxxxxx

Hi

First try to remember that most lumps turn out to benign. What they will probably do is examine you, give you a mammogram- where they squash your boob between two plates. This is uncomfortable but does not hurt.after that you will have an ultrasound too locate the lump and they will insert a needle to take sample. I cannot remember if it hurt or not so I’m guessing it didn’t.

At my hosp I was told 1 hr later it was cancer and went back a few days after for a core biopsy. Other hospitals take longer so it is worth finding out what the system is. I am 38 and my chances of having cancer were 0.6% so I imagine your chances are slim too although sadly it does happen. I hope the time passes quickly for you. Good luck. Dx

Hi
Sorry youve had to start on this path, but you will find lots of support and info here.
Its natuaral to be scared, but the not knowing is often worse that the diagnosis. The needle test is manageable as they use a local aneasthetic and the wee tool they use is quick-though a bit noisey!
I would suggest you do a list of questions, take a family/freins with you to help ‘listen’ and try to focus on the plan they may have for you.
I wouldnt search the internet at this stage till you know the outcome of the tests-It would drive you mad, theres so much out there!
Take care, try to stay positive-and good luck for Monday
