3D Tattoo nippling

Hi.

Im hopefully coming to the end of my poor healing breast reduction and I saw my surgeon today because of issues of cramp in my stomach.
He’s finally going to refer me for an ultrasound and hopefully iron out that problem.
At the end of the appointment, he mentioned that we previously discussed 3D tattooing of the areola; the final stages of all this, but I know nothing about it. It’s almost like a secret treatment performed somewhere in this hospital. I didn’t even know it was done by the breast care nurses. They’ve never mentioned this to me in the few visits I’ve had to see them. No literature, no leaflets nothing.
Why is this? Is this the same at other hospitals around the country or just mine.
It’s probably something I couldn’t have if at all (got to get the ok, for Rheumatology first) until beginning of next year, so that both breasts are completely settled down, but in the meantime i can’t understand why everything else to do with breast cancer is promoted or publicised by all these health professionals, but not this!

I have a girl friend who had it done and she is so happy that she did. She had a full mastectomy, then went through the reconstruction surgery. But she did not feel complete. After she had the tattoo she fell so much better about herself. She told me on more then one occasion that she could leave the lights on now when she undressed.

Definitely not mentioned at my hospital! I only learned about it through BCN and private tattoo artists who offer it. I think it’s amazing your hospital offer this as part of the reconstruction process! My only assumption would be budget wise it’s not going to be a priority so maybe it’s not nationally offered?

Perhaps my area has got some funding, especially around breast cancer, as its the only one in the West Midlands with a surgeon who does a diep flap breast reconstruction.
I was referred to plastic surgery because of this procedure, so maybe it’s not known on the breast care side, mainly plastics? I don’t know.
