5 years on - and clear!
5 years on - and clear! Ladies (and gentlemen) I just wanted to post to give all of you hope who are just starting on the long journey of diagnosis, treatment and waiting, waiting, and those of you going through some horrendous treatment (some not for the first time), that there is an end in sight and that one day you may all hear the good news that I have in the last two weeks - my 5 year mammogram shows NO abnormalities, I can stop taking the Arimidex (4 left, and counting!) and I am therefore, BC free!
Make no mistake I know I am one of the lucky ones in that it was detected very very early (routine mammo), they got clear margins first time, axillary clearance showed no node involvement so I only had to have rads and hormone treatment. My poor sister was not not so lucky, she had to have mastectomy, radiotherapy and oophrectomy (she was diagnosed and treated before Tamoxifen had been licensed in the UK - it was still undergoing trials), and sadly she didn’t make it, it spread to her bones and she died aged 45.
I am constantly amazed and impressed at the courage of all you people on here who are living with metastases and still cheerfully posting, I have shed tears over some of you (JPoet - how is it going?) and those who have died (Paulineef - Smiley, who I had just started to correspond with and planned to meet up with as she lived near me), I can truly say I have found humbling and inspirational stories from you ladies (and you, too men!) and want to wish you all the very very best as you continue your journeys through this life experience.
I will still pop in from time to time to see how you are doing, but am now going to try to concentrate on making the most of the rest of my life, but I will think of you all, every day, and never forget your courage and humour.
Hi Carling, Thank you for your posting. Well done you for sticking the course with the tablets and hope you DO keep posting. You will help give us inspiration.
Big hugs Joy xxxx

What wonderful news As someone who is coming up to her first anniversary of finishing treatment I take great heart from hearing about those who’ve made it through to the five years - I have one friend who is 6.5 years post and two friends who are 4 years.
Thanks for the boost.
Anne
Thanks for writing that carling. It’s great news for you and for us who are still fairly new.
I hope all continues to go well for you,
Love Zeb

All the very best It’s great to hear someone reaching the end of all this - it can seem an impossible target to many of us - even is we are among the luckier ones.
I wish you all the very best for a long and happy future.

Well done carling for doing all you treatment, and good luck and best wishes for the future, now we can see there is hope at the end, I lost my gran through bc, but again that was back in the 70,s, so i said from day one, no matter how frightened i was i was going to win this thing, and i can now see it can be done.
WELL DONE!
Karen
Long may it last I wish you well with everything, 5 years is great.
I am 18m ‘NED’ am hoping to notch up a few more.
Paulines loss was the single most sad thing I have dealt with in the last few months, I know you will live a little more gloriously in her honour, as I have been doing also.
If we are scared about what we are dealing with, or what the future might bring, we at least have one, and every day should be a day to be glad of.
You will be cheering many people with your news, its wonderful!
Take care

Good luck, Carling When I was first dxd my obsession was to find out other people’s survival rates as I had only known friends and relatives who had died.
I’m sure your post will give hope to all those starting out on this ‘trip that nobody wants to take’. Best wishes for the future!
love, Judy
