5 years with no evidence of disease

Hi everyone,
it will soon be 5 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When does the ‘5 years NED’ start from, is it from date of diagnosis or when treatment such as surgery, chemo and radiotherapy has finished?

With the lack of response I take it nobody knows the answer!

Congrats Jenner!
I believe that it is counted from when the cancer was removed- so from date of surgery. But I have heard of some counting from completion of treatment.

Hi Jenna
I suspect that the 5 years is a “rule of thumb” type period, so there isn’t a hard and fast definition of when it starts. If you want to err on the side of caution it would run from the end of treatment.

Hi Jenna,
My surgeon told me it is from the date of your diagnosis. It must be such a mile stone to be getting up to that point!!

Hi Jane, thank you so much for that. Yes its a great feeling getting to the 5 year mark, can’t believe it is actually 5 years, still don’t think you can ever ‘relax fully’ but its a milestone. It will be 5 years on April 13th, just finishing Tamoxifen and will be starting Femara next week, thanks again,

Hi Sarah and Tina, thank you so much for your replies, as you say, don’t think there are any definite answers but just happy to be nearly there at 5 years, thanks xx
