6months post surgery and mammo due.. scared

So 6 months ago i had lumpectony and SNB they took 3 nodes and all clear. Had equivalent of 29 rads treatments and now on the poison pill (tamoxifen). I’m due to have my fist mammo and ultrasound after surgery almost 6 months ago. Rads finished 9 weeks ago and i am soooo very scared. I am scared not only for the results but to actually have the mammo done. I am large breasted and the last one i had done hurt… This time, my breast is still very tender from not only the surgery but my skin broke after rads and was a right mess with blistering and all that. I need to know that they go everything during surgery for piece of mind but i a=cannot imagine squishing my already very sore boob… i think about it and just cry…

oh mate sending you a hug, have you given your bcn a call to have a chat about this, they normally do the first mammogram 12 months after diagnosis so it might be worth calling her to check that they have the correct date

hi, surgeon wants all testing done every 6 months mammo and ultrasound… also all testing relating to tamoxifen… pap smear stomach ultrasound, eyes colonoscopy… the works… and just sad…

Medical oncologist says, no all testing every 12 months… Rads oncologist says well if surgeon wants it like that then it’s 6 monthly. BC Nurse has entered me into a piolet program where she sets all appoints and and is a go between for specialists and oncologists and GP… at the momnet it’s still set for 6 months…i don’t know if this is an australian thing or just my surgeon being an a s s

Hi Jane,
Assuming from what you say, your treatment seemed quite straightforward, but it sounds like you’re not clear about the rationale for this follow-up.
In the UK following treatment like yours, we get routine yearly mammo & follow-up & usually only further investigations if having symptoms of tamox side effects, such as unusual bleeding.
Is it worth getting back to your team about how you’re feeling & seeing what they say about why this follow-up is recommended?
Wishing you well with it all.

Spoke with surgeon and expressed my fears about having a mammo done due to the pain in my breast. He wasn’t happy but said we will re schedule it til after xmas. He said he prefers to do them 6 monthly just to keep ontop of things… So nutshell is that no mammo for a few more months YAY !!
