6yrs on.. now mammo recall calcifications

Hi all, I am 6 years from my first dx when i was 34. Been through wle, snb, rads, tamoxifen, zoladex, oopherectomy, exemestane and finally finished treatment a year ago.

Had my yearly mammo 6 weeks ago. After 4 weeks I got results letter saying " no worrying features" . However, a week later (5 weeks after mammo) got a second letter being recalled for more mammos and biopsy!!!

Spoke to my consultants secretary who said that consultant has noted calcifications but has reported them as benign and not suspicious (hence first letter). However, someone else has since had a second look and has recalled me!

I am so confused. Anyone else had a similar thing? Why am i being recalled if consultant says its benign? I just hope he is right…

Calcifications can sometimes indicate DCIS. I think they can get a good idea if it is DCIS from the pattern so the fact they discounted it at first can give you some reassurance. My sister had invasive breast cancer over a decade ago. Unbeknown to her her subsequent mammograms had shown some of the changes you’ve experienced but the surgeon was not concerned and was just keeping the situation monitored. Later on they decided to biopsy, found widespread dcis and she had a mastectomy. Absolutely no invasive cancer found. So no rads or chemo or even hormone therapy.

Fingers crossed all will be well for you.
