7 weeks post op... scar not healing

Hi all

I am 7 weeks post op and my scar is still not healing. It weeps and oozes almost constantly. The surgeon says its not infected but has given me Iodine dressings to put on it, which dont seem to be doing anything…I find having nothing on it seems to dry it up a bit to some extent, but it starts to weep again by the end of the day. He says its just a case of waiting for it to heal. It is not painful, but it is very sore if accidently touched or if im bending forward or getting out of a chair, anything that “pulls” or “squashes” in that area.
I am due to have radiotherapy but it has been postponed twice because of this (and looks like it will be again) This makes me anxious as Im worried that any of the stray cancer cells left behind may find elsewhere to go before I get the radiotherapy done!
My question is has anyone else had this experience of their wound not wanting to heal, and how long it took, and any tips on helping it along?

Thanks so much

Hi - I believe that using lavender oil helps healing. When I was able to wash / bathe proeprly after my Mx, I bathed my wounds very gently in water with a few drops of lavender oil in it. they have healed beautifully. When GS was born, hospital told his mother to put it in her bath water in place of salt baths and again she healed really well (poor girl had over 90 stitches). I swear by it, hope this is helpful. xx

Hi

I kept this link to a product called mepiform-maybe you could ask BC nurse/GP about it if it may be suitable.

Hi, I had terrible trouble with my scar healing as I had MRSA in it. It was open a full 6 months to the day of me having my op until it was closed and the district nurse didnt need to come ever day. I had some many forms of dressings and the read about MSM tablets from the health shop. Its not cheap between £10 and £15 but within 3 weeks of using it my scar closed so I believe it was that which closed it.

Dont know for sure but if your having problems for too long I would give it a try it worked for me
