8 weeks??

hi, i had a biopsy after finding a lump. The dr said i could have my results in the post or by going back to hospital which i decided to do. anyway i rang up a coulple of weeks ago and asked for them in the post as i had to go away unexpectidly. the receptionist said the results were there but she couldn’t access them and asked me to wait on the line. when she came back she said they couldnt tell me as the drs were having a meeting to discuss what they would do with me on the 18th but they couldnt send a letter in case it was bad news. this week i got a letter saying to go on 10th september and allow 3 hours as i may need special breast xrays. that takes it to 8 weeks before getting my results. is all this normal and why might i need xrays? i just dont know what to think. xx

It sounds as if that is a standard letter, I can recall something similar when i had my letter to go back for my results and it actually was nowhere near that length of time.

The important thing is, mandalou, you are being thoroughly checked. It is, of course, anxiety provoking, but the vast majority of recalls turn out to be nothing to worry about.

Hello Mandalou,

Sorry you find yourself here.  In my opinion,  if you have had no indication of results from the first biopsy (I.e. they haven’t said it was inconclusive and need to check again etc,  then I think 8 week wait for results is a very long time.  I would have thought biopsy results are usually within two weeks and an appointment scheduled to discuss.

If it was me,  I would be ringing/contacting for an explanation. If still not clear after this I would asked patient advocacy services to assist.  Waiting until 10th September without an adequate explanation seems inappropriate.

Best wishes,  ? Chick X

Thanks ladies, a lot of people have said that it really is a long time to wait for results. They keep telling me that no news is good news which is really frustrating! I may try phoning again but I guess I will know either way in 2 weeks. Will keep you posted. X
