Today was quite a busy day for me at the hospital so I thought I’d post an update - which might hopefully bring a bit of comfort to those anxiously waiting for scan results.
Oh, firstly I should probably mention I had my titanium marker inserted as I’m planning to have chemo first so they’ll need to know exactly where my lump was in case it shrinks away to nothing. Apologies if this is all obvious stuff but up until a few weeks ago none of it was to me, so maybe someone reading will find it vaguely useful. Anyway, what a big, big baby - there was a tiny droplet of blood drawn during the procedure so I felt a bit faint!! But then I am squeamishness incarnate and for anyone else who is going to have this done it really is nothing. The follow up mammogram that checks it’s been inserted in the correct place is more painful.
I also saw my consultant and got the results of my bone scan (which I know some of you are also waiting for.) Even though my CT scan was clear I was a bit worried about the bone scan - as I’ve mentioned elsewhere I’ve had a very sore shoulder on my breast cancer side, my knee has been hurting and I’ve had twinges of rib pain on and off too. Happily the bone scan was all clear too, so for those of you imagining that every twinge and ache is proof your cancer has spread, please keep the faith.
I also found out that my lump is Her2 negative which I understand is a good thing as it means it’s a bit less aggressive. In fact the surgeon said I could get away with not having chemo first if I so chose because of this, but given that I want to have the most minimal surgery possible I do want to try and shrink my lump first.
Bit of a ramble but just wanted to show that in amongst the various scans, procedures and scary information we have to take on board there are more positive days which I’m sure we’ll all grab onto with both hands.
Thanks for your positive post Cherry and good to see your scans are clear. I get my bone and CT scans results on Tuesday when I see my consultant. I know unofficially that my bone scan is ok, but worrying about CT scan as feel as if I’ve got aches and pains everywhere at the moment! Thank you so much for the encouragement xx
If friendship and support was the cure we would all be cured by now x I won’t say try not to worry Jen because that would be silly mand worrying is inevitable… I try and distract myself and you all help do that so hugs to all and hopefully you will all have a at the very least an okay weekend xxxxx
Jen enjoy time with your daughter I have missed my daughter this week as she is on holiday in Thailand with her hubby x they get back late Friday the day after my op so looking forward to seeing her next Saturday x her husband is a medic in the navy not sure if him having ‘insider’ knowledge so to speak is help or hinderance. Fortunately bc is not an area of speciality for him and he does not have a doctor level of general info x most of his training is for injury x
Last one was s day case but they kept me in overnight because I was really sick this time I know it’s a pm operation and having a drain so they have said they will keep me in overnight x that would be great if your daughter can see her grandad too fingers crossed she makes it home to see you xx
Full lymph node clearance in right arm and lymph nodes stop fluid build up so cause they won’t be there will need the drain to stop fluid build up at least that’s what I think they said I think I zoned out partvway through the explanation in disbelief xx
Oh bless you SueW, I’m sure they can counteract that for you. X
jencat, I’m quite well thank you. I had to go to hospital earlier in the week as I had a bouncing temp, so got antibiotics and some lively injections as my white blood cell count was very low. The injections help to quickly boost white blood cell production, hopefully this will mean when I have my blood test on weds (ahead of second chemo) it will be good to go. I’d like to stay on schedular as I’m currently due my final chemo on 1st Dec, would be so nice to be finished for Xmas!
