Hi quinny
I can’t really help regarding your questions but if you have been allocated a BCN maybe you should give them a ring. The help line on here are also very good so give them a ring.
Im sure other ladies will be along soon who are more knowledgable than me.

Hi Quinny,

I had operation to remove all my nodes 4 weeks after my original lumpectomy and one sentinal node removed. They found small traces of cancer in the sentinal node so decided it was best to have the rest removed. I of course was devastated at the time as didn’t want to go through surgery just 4 weeks after original op. All was ok and I was in hospital just 2 nights, the rest of the nodes, all 19 of them were clear. I know its easy to say not to worry, I have never tried rescue remedy, my daughter finds it very useful but I did resort to getting something from my doctor to keep me calm. I wish you lots of luck, do let us know how you are getting on.

thanks marina im having the op 24th of april xx

Hi Quinney,

At my hospital they test the SNB while you are under anaesthetic, so I woke up to find as well as WLE they had done a full node clearance because the sentinal node was positive. The actual clearance scar was no more painful than the main WLE scar, no real problem at all, and it healed quickly.

As far as side effects go I have numbness down the back of my arm, and in the couple of weeks after the op the same area was quite painful to touch (I know numbness and pain together sounds odd), I took diclofenac and a codeine based painkiller for a week, and then paracetamol when I needed it and that was fine. I also still have swelling around the ANC site, that started to clear up around 6 weeks after the op, then I had radiotherapy and it became swollen again, I am now 6 weeks post rads with no change.

aww ok im having the scar reopened …for them to do this xx
