A "how to get through chemo" experience - a bit controversial maybe?

I found this article rather annoying especially with regards to the prohibitive costs of some of the products. Also the extreme fasting seemed really bizarre.

But worth a read purely to get someone else’s experience.

Thanks Ali,

A friend of mine, diagnosed at the same time, has started her chemo a month before me.  She has done something similiar but instead of complete fasting, has followed a detox style diet of only 600 calories for 3 days before chemo and 2 days after.  She’s had very few side effects too.  I know how ill I feel on 600 cals so I won’t be trying it but it would be nice if some proper research was done into diet.

I disagree - it was good to see an article in print acknowledging the problems we have, and I only wish I had been able to read this before I started treatment.  But others may not agree with me.  Gigi

Hi.
I’m about to start chemo so found this article both interesting and completely confusing. How can we put ourselves through complete starvation during chemo? Would that not put us in jeopardy in a time where as it says in the article, we are poisoning our bodies as it is? Does this actually work?
Obviously I am willing to do whatever I can to get through the next 5 months but I’m not sure this is the way to go. I can’t even go half a day without eating something.
Has anyone else tried it? Did it help?

Hi ladies,

you may want to watch this programme on BBC iplayer. It was on Monday a week ago - a true eye opener!

I saw that Sue. Thought it was very interesting. Loved the bit where they found a bottle of common cooking oil on the bottom shelf and it turned out it was actually rapeseed oil which, when labelled as such on a higher shelf is about three times the price. I’ll have to do more bending down in the supermarket from now on to get the bargains.
