A long, eventful day...

Hello Everyone

I was sitting in Medical Physics this morning at just gone 9am. Waited for my turn for the injection of radioactive stuff, then back to the waiting room for 40mins. Then back inside for the photos. At one point in the wait I got up to look for the loos. The receptionist directed me to ‘a special loo’ in which there was a sign pointing out there maybe some radioactive material in my urine and that I should ‘try not to splash’! I usually try not to splash when I wee but it amused me to think that now I had a specific reason for doing so!

Last Friday I’d had an MRI to check out the other breast. I’d received a call yesterday to say something had shown up in the the other breast. I went in yesterday for another scan and was asked to call in and see the doctor again today.

So me and my notes were escorted from Medical Physics to the Breast Clinic. The radiologist drained a normal cyst but also did two biopsies of the left breast. I asked him if this scan was the same as the one for the right breast (identified with DCIS and invasive). His answer was long and non-committal.

Me and my fat file were then escorted to Theatre Assessment Unit where I was booked in for an SNB on the right breast. I was last on the list and so spent nearly 5 hours being driven crazy by daytime telly before it was my turn. Thankfully I was given a bucketful of anti-emetics so after a cup of tea and some toast (best meal in the world after such a day) I arrived home just before 9pm.

So back in the waiting room… Mx booked for 4 Nov but will it be a double? Seeing surgeon 26 Oct. Results of SNB 2 Nov. And after all this in one day, can you believe I can’t sleep?!!

White Daisy - what a day you’ve had!! wishing you at least a few hours of uninterrupted fret free sleep after all that
Best wishes to you X

Oh what a day White Daisy, I suppose the only consolation is that you got it all done in one day and not several visits over several weeks with all the waiting in between and you’ve got your appointment dates so no anxious waiting for letters to arrive.

When I had my mx I arrived at 7.30am (having been NBM since midnight) and didn’t go down to theatre til 4.30pm, by which point I would have killed for daytime tv but because of the digital switchover the tvs weren’t working!! First words out of my mouth when nurse asked if she could get me anything were ‘food, food anything you have’ I even got OH to smuggle food into me. I always wake from anaesthetic with a ravenous appetite and don’t stop eating for about 2 days

Hope the sleep fairy comes to you soon, sounds like you’ve a busy few weeks ahead of you
Best wishes
