Good evening all, I was told the beginning of Jan I have BC. After a 4 week wait and lots of tests I was told on Monday the BC had not spread, much to my realefe. Sorry about the spelling.
I saw the chemo doctor yesterday and to say I am frightened out of my wits. He is sitting there telling all the things that can go wrong I could have screamed. It’s bad enough having this rotten alien in side me and then to be told what can go wrong.
I am being given something called FEC are any off you having this.
Hi Daisy, it’s all very very scary and taking information in is so hard when you are panicking inside. I have just had my second round of FEC and although it’s not easy I don’t feel as bad as I thought I would. You will get tired and have to be careful about infection, but the sickness is controlled by very good meds. It wears off after a few days and I even went back to work during my first cycle. Have a look at the monthly threads as you will find a lot of advice and support there. Feel free to ask questions. When do you start? I bet a March thread will start soon if you haven’t already started in February and there you will be able to talk to others at the same stage of chemo as you. It has really helped me.
Love and hugs

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to find my way round this sight lol. My chemo is next Thursday you hear of such horrible things I am a born worrier any way I drive my kids mad. X x
Lots of help here, the monthly treads, especially the January and February one will be easiest to get round and more at the beginning of their treatment which you will be able to relate to more.
The thing I can say, it’s don’t panic, your medical team are obliged to list all the possible side effects and most people want get half of them! And also, the level you get any side effect (often referred to ad SE’s on the forum) is sometimes mild and won’t give you that much of a problem. If you ever read the SE’s listed on a leaflet in paracetamol or antibiotics or the like, it can seem pretty scary!
One piece of advice I read on this forum somewhere was to drink 2 litres of water the day before chemo, on the day and the day after. I keep up drinking 1½ litres for a week after that. I have had fairly minimal SE’s so far and had FEC 3 yesterday.
Good luck with it, if you are finding very tough, tell the nurses at you chemo unit as there is often things they can do to help, don’t suffer in silence, they don’t want you to do that. Lots of advice and help on the forum, too, of course! :smileyhappy:
Hi I brought my wig on Friday. I took my daughter with me. I was trying on some and when I put one of them on my daughter burst out laughing, she said mum you look like rod Stewart. So that one went back in the box lol lol
Hiya. Daisy, I had my first chemo on Wednesday. I am having TAC which is stronger than FEC only on day 3 but am ok. A bit Sickly and headaches but it’s bearable. They tell you all the side affects however you might get hardly any, some or all. I read up on it a lot before and read loads of helpful posts on this site. The more prepared I got the better about it I felt. And talk to your friends and family. Talking is a good head straightener. The chemo itself was pain free and not so bad and your nurses go through everything with you and you can talk to other people going through it while there. My hair is not out yet but I have my wig which I determined to wear and lots of nice beanie hats. Embrace the new you for a while a look forwards to your last one they all say it goes really quick. I have already had a double mastectomy, bought my new boobs before they were off and exercise loads to get my arms moving after my lymph gland op. The more you learn before from people who have gone through it and get prepared the better you will handle it. The best of look, stay positive and grab it by the horns chick xxxxx
