a query

Hi There
I have never posted on your site or got terribly involved in your campaign.
I am a sister of someone who has got involved through her breast cancer and been used to promote your cause
so why is she receiving so little support from your community?
at present she is languishing in hospital after a serious attempt to take her life, no one in your organisation seems concerned or interested in her situation, having never been able to deal with the eventual after affects of cancer.
i realise you are trying to deal with the day to day cancer ramifications but what happens once they are over.

I’m sorry you/your friend feels they have not recieved support from these forums, and am sorry to hear your friend has tried to take her own life.
Am I right in assuming your friend is post-treatment?

Maybe try posting in the ‘Family, partners and friends’ thread you may get more help there.

I know nothing of the background to this but I am sure someone on these forums would be willing to offer support.

I’m sorry to read this; your sister must have felt very desperate and she must have felt that life is not worth living.
Is she out of hospital now? Is she receiving good care and some help now? Some women find it helpful to have counselling; it is just a talking therapy but some prefer to talk with people who are not involved, not friends or family. Sometimes we feel a bit more free to speak with strangers, as odd as that sounds. Women often feel that their families have a burden dealing with the disease and don’t want to offload but families don’t always know how to listen or what to say and are worried about saying the wrong thing.
BCC offer a sort of buddy service so your sister might feel at ease with talking to someone of a similar age or even talking to one of the nurses if she doesn’t have a Breast Care Nurse.
Does your sister have a listening GP perhaps? I know some ladies who have had wonderful GPs and this can help a lot.
Please let us know how your sister is doing.
Best wishes
CM

ellymac - so sorry to hear about your sister. Chit chat is not the right forum for her but have a look at Living with breast cancer and Recently diagnosed with BC where you will find help.
