A strange benefit of having Chemo?

Has anyone else noticed they don’t need deodorant/antiperspirant?

I had a left mx in March with full node clearance and haven’t needed to use deodorant on that side since (I didn’t use it after the operation because of irritation, but noticed that I didn’t sweat there anyway).

However, I have also noticed that I am not sweating under my right arm either! The only thing I can think of is that the Chemo is inhibiting sweating (it’s either that, or my right armpit has come out in sympathy with my poor, abused, left armpit!). I’m currently saving a small fortune as I’m not having to buy deodorant/antiperspirant.

I’m taking the small joys where and when I can!

I still need it, in fact more so. You sure that’s from chemo, and not surgery?

Fran - I’m the same … I have put it on out of habit but not using it now as I have noticed I have no under arm odour and don’t sweat there at all … in either armpit … how weird?!

Hello, elttiks - yes I 'm sure it’s not from surgery - I haven’t had anything done to my right side at all. The left armpit could easily be from the surgery (in fact, it probably is) but the right armpit can’t possibly be!

I feel for you about needing more antiperspirant - bummer!

angielav - it’s nice to have something positive to comment on, isn’t it?

Fran.

I’m only glad you mentioned it Fran cos I hadn’t really thought about it … so consumed with all the negatives! It makes me smile x

another positive… I dont have NITS
nor do I have to trim my nose hair… saves so much time…

5 mins tops in the shower…no hair to wash legs or underarms to shave… OH said chemo gives a whole new meaning to ‘a quick shower’
xx

My psoriasis completely went when i had chemo and the menopausal nasty body ahes and pains, still had the hot flushes though, but now finished chemo and start rads on thursday and they are back again but at least there was a break!!! but had to change fluoxetine to venlafaxine and have started the tamoxifen and got so many side effects not sure which one is giving which side effects but mood swings seem to be the worst today xxx

As long as it’s not our sense of smell that’s been effected and actually we DO stink…!!

I like my freckles that have appeared. And the fact that my legs are all smooth with no ingrown hairs or anything. BUT that’s about it.

Just driven 15 miles with windows open and cooling breeze on my bald and hot-flushey head - lovely! (And never in a million years would have thought I’d be writing that!)

Yep - another Fran who is not using deodorant any more!!! It must be catching!

It’s just me sweaty, lol.

I expect I will have to start using deodorant / antiperspirant again once the chemo is finished, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying it! Saving money, too!

Fran.

I’ll keep you company Elticks!!! no sweat respite here… and the head and night… yuk!

Fran you might be lucky - I am 4 years since last chemo, I use deodorant out of habit, but still don’t sweat. Another advantage I had was my underarm hair never grew back properly, just a couple of little hardly noticeable blonde hairs. They don’t ever need defuzzing! - Wish I could say the same about my legs!

I didn’t notice the deodorant thing, but my skin was very smooth and spot-free during chemo and I didn’t have hayfever. Sadly my hayfever has returned now that chemo is over. And my skin isn’t as smooth. But I can’t think of any other positives!

I finished chemo in December and never went back to using deodorant - just shower every day and that seems to be enough. No-one’s complained anyway!

My hair was shoulder-length, brown with some grey before chemo. Now it’s grown back, I’m keeping it short and funky and have gone blonde. Loving it - should have done it years ago!

Lilac, if your hair is as it is in the photo, it does look great, funky suits you. I have kept my hair short, I much prefer it.

Nicky65 & Lilac - that’s encouraging news - I will hope that it has the same effect on me, too, then! Here’s hoping that the underarm hair doesn’t grow back either!
