Abbreviations, can someone tell me what they mean?

I’d love to know what the abbreviations are in some of the posts, please enlighten me :slight_smile:

Thanks
Jean xx

Every day may not be good, but there’s something good in every day

WLE is Wide Local Excision- - which is genarally a lumpectomy.

Thanks Mary,
That’s a start :slight_smile: i’m going to have to write them down

If you ask which ones you want to know it may be easier.

Hi Jean

There is a glossary of medical terms on the website which you may find answers some of your queries, just cut and paste the following link;

breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=74

Hope this helps
Lucy

Hi Jean

A few more abbreviations for you

Dx = Diagnosis
SNB = sentinel node biopsy (lymph nodes)
onc= oncologist (obvious one, that!)
OH = other half
Px = prescription
rads= radiotherapy

It takes a while to fathom them all out, but I am sure you’ll get the hang of it!

Best wishes

Hi scousenana,
I am with you in this. It’s a new language to me. To my shame it’'s not even medical terms. I still don’t know what lol is, but I think it must mean something nice. As for oh I thought I might need one but once I worked out what it meant realised i had been without for a long time and wanted to continue that way.
For me the answer would be - ask the grandchildren. But as you know from another thread their hopes that I might one day be normal would be forever dashed!

How old are your grandchildren?

Margaret

lol = laugh out loud

Some people use lol as lots of love on here too. Can completely change the context of a sentence, ie people are being supportive not laughing at your suffering.

brb = be right back
ttfn = ta ta for now.

I think they’re the only ones I’ve seen on here. Jargon Node has a searchable list of abbreviations and it’s what all geek newbies find themselves using.

I know this because I started working with a team of people using IRC (internet relay chat) back in November, those abbreviations just kept coming thick and fast.

OMG - Oh My Gosh
imho = in my humble opinion
gtg= got to go

BTW - by the way
WB - welcome back

The LOL can be misconstrued, if you are not careful. Can mean: Laugh out loud, Lord oh Lord or Lots of love! You’ve been warned. But seriously, don’t worry, you will get the hang of it. It’s just sometimes easier to use the abreviations.

Birgit

btw = by the way
