abroad while on chemo?

Hello,

I’m thinking of going to Prague for three nights in the last week before my next chemo session. The hospital have said I should be fine but theoretically I shouldn’t go - anyone else been abroad whilst on chemo?

Thanks

Alison

Hurrah and thanks Sadie! Just what I needed to hear. I’m going to book right now. And I’ll check out miaonline - that was my next question. I have insurance through my bank account but suspect it won’t cover current circs although will give them a ring.

The thought of going away is so exciting though.

Thanks and best wishes

ALison

Hi Alison. I finished my chemo 2 weeks ago so not quite the same situation as you. I am off to Lanzarote this coming Sunday. I also had travel insurance with my bank. Many of the usual companies weren’t willing to cover me because it has been less than 4 weeks since last chemo but bank upgraded me (and whole family) to include BC. It cost £90 for a years cover. Told them I’m on herceptin, zoladex, have picc line and have rads to come but they were still happy to cover me.

Hi Bobtail

Can I be cheeky & ask who you bank with? Have got insurance through Lloyds so maybe a thought to get additional cover for next year when I’m traveling again!

Thanks

Hello AnnieK68

I’m with Natwest. I was a bit suspicious about the cover when I got off the phone after everyone else had said no (except Bromley Insurance who wanted over £200)but a few days later I got a letter from them confirming BC included…breath sigh of relief…

Thanks Bobtail,

Will give it a try when we’re ready to book early next year! Boy I need some heat!!

Hi

Thanks Bobtail. I’ll check out my bank and see what they say but try Natwest if no luck!

Hi All

My onc and breast care specialist both advised I should cancel my holiday that was booked months ago and would fall right in my chemo treatment, it was 2 weeks in South Africa and would have involved a few vacinations so decided to take their advice and cancelled it - I am going to try and do it again next year. I bank with natwest and use their insurance as well so it’s good to know that hopefully I will still be able to get cover through them after treatment albeit with an upgrade.

I hope you enjoy your time away.

Hi - I had 2 weeks in Menorca in the middle of chemo - gave me a break in treatment but I think it did me good.
I paid out extra in insurance but later wished I hadn’t bothered because I was absolutely fine while away.
Enjoy your break!

Yes, I also have been many times abroad while chemo. Just need to check is it possible to take chemo abroad where you will be. Just in case. Before last chemo all aeroports have been closed and many flights delayed. I did my chemo every 3 weeks. Last chemo I was able to do after 5 weeks (exatly for tihi reason)

Have nice holidays!

Thanks very much everyone, every now and then a sl ight worry crosses my mind about being away from the nhs then I think, lot of other people have done it and I’m only a 2 hour flight away, but I hadn’t even thought of possible delays because of weather!
