ACEM a non religious easy meditation--works for me

Some time ago I felt the need for a way to handle stress and looked into meditation, self hypnosis, yoga and all that sort of stuff. It was all a bit to in your face for me something that I knew I would not keep up.

But I found this thing called ACEM meditation that was very gentle and the courses seemed not at all expensive and very sensible. No superior universal being or special positions. so i gave it a go and it realy helped. I dont do it all the time nowadays, just occasionally when i feel the need.

Well it has come into its own over the past few weeks whilst waiting for results. I have got back into the habit of a 20 minute session each day. And when i wake up at night I curl into a little compfy ball and start it till I feel sleepy again, especially usefull fro the morning of the results.

The national institute of cancer have published a paper to say that they cannot find a link between stress and the cause of cancer, but there are links between stress and the developement and spread of the tumor, and so now I have decided to make some time in my day to get back into it. Might not have any effect but it can’t harm. Its four weeks to my op and it is in the back of my mind that it could be growing, so even though I am busy I am going to go for it.

Couldnt agree with you more i use Brandon Bays but what ever you use and it works for you thats brilliant. It gave me peace, the ability to fight my cancer with super strength. xx

Love the band and the u tube…

Oldandlumpy - “but there are links between stress and the developement and spread of the tumor”

There is no reliable evidence linking stress to cancer.
In fact one study found that stress reduced breast cancer risk because it lowered the amount of oestrogen in the body!
Meditation is great if it makes you feel better - but its efficacy in dealing with cancer is unproven.

i dont think the link you sent me contradicts the page i read. They both say there is no link between the cause of cancer and stress, but the study I read goes on to say in paragraph 5 that there is some link to how the cancer progresses once you have it.

cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/stress.

Unless i am reading the two reports wrong that is.

The article they are citing was published in '98 - it is 13 years old. In cancer research terms that is pretty archaic.
As CRUK point out, following peer review most of these studies are found to be small and poorly executed.

There was a lot of hoopdedoo in the media last year about stress giving fruit flies cancer. What the researchers actually discovered was that BIOLOGICAL stress (i.e. damage) can affect cells in close proximity. So unsurprisingly the journalists get it totally wrong yet again and yet more cancer myths are born …

Excellent piece on it here - nhs.uk/news/2010/01January/Pages/emotional-stress-causes-cancer.aspx

oh well, I had better stop grasping at straws then. If this thing is going to grow and spread before they get it out seemes there is nothing i can do to stop it.

I agree Stressy Messy, it’s one of the more curable breast cancers (like DCIS) which is brilliant news O & L for you. I am under the Royal Marsden and I have invasive and also DCIS. The DCIS is high grade and the core of it had already turned to two tumours which have been removed. I have had the ivasive tumours removed, but did not get clear margins from the DCIS so have to have more surgery, and probably by the looks of it a full mastectomy as its quite well spread.

The reason for this post is I am going on holiday on the 29th August, and after the crap time I have had and having had to cancel one holiday already this year due to the invasive cancer, did not want to cancel this one, but ofcourse don’t want to leave myself at risk. I was told that providing my MRI scans don’t throw up anymore invasive cancer, it will be absolutely fine to leave my operation until after I have returned which is early September as cancer does not grow that quickly. I was told this by a breast consultant at what is known as a “centre of excellence” so feel very confident in what I have been told.

Hope this reassures you that it won’t spread in a few weeks, which I know isn’t always easy as it’s only natural to be worried about cancer and spreading, it’s a scary illness. And you would not be normal if you didn’t have whatif moments, I certainly have had plenty myself.

Another reassurance, i was diagnosed August 10th 2010 CUP cancer her2 pos grade 3 stage 2 maybe 3 was told it wasnt curable only treatable after loads of scans they still couldnt find the primary cancer and so said it was probably breast cancer stage 2 I started chemo on October 15th 2010 but prior to that had been using meditation and i felt the nodes that had been found starting to shrink, by the time id had second of 8 chemos the nodes had shrunk. I had surgery to remove the lymph nodes 3 weeks ago and was told they couldnt find any trace of cancer and if they hadnt known before all that was left was a bit of scarring.Im in remission and other than high risk of recurrence im now expected to die of old age. The power of the mind is a wonderful thing so old and lumpy keep doing what your doing and believe in what you do and it will work for you.

yes i am lucky that its not that agressive, I suppose it suddenly crossed my mind that if it were taken out next week then it could not spread.

However my breast and armpit are still very sore, so i suppose it is good that they will have a chance to heal before they are messed aroud with again.
