Hi
I am a week post mastectomy op. I have some seroma and was told by a physio that too much activity can cause swelling. Did she mean general activity as I know you need to move about or did she mean just my left arm. Really confused and don’t want to aggravate it as got a wedding to go to next week.
Please help

Dear jules
While you are waiting for some replies to your post I have attached a link to the BCC leaflet “Getting fitter (exercises after surgery)”. There is also a DVD of the exercises available to order.
I hope this helps.
Very best wishes

Hello Jules,
I am not qualified to answer your question, but I am 10 days post mastectomy and can you what I am doing:
I am now up and about, just having a rest in the afternoon. I am sore and lots of nerve pain. Swelling seems to be down the side of my body rather than in the breast area, so far. I am anticiptaing that the swelling will get worse beofre it gets better. I am doing set A of the physio exercises, almost always x 3 per day and definately see an improvement (btw, these are meant to help with swelling). I am not lifting with tha arm, been told not to hoover or do repetitive exercises, not acrrying shopping etc, but will say hold kettle or bottle with both arms.
When I had surgery previously, I noticed that swelling went up and down so for example in the morning less swelling, in the vening more.
i hope this helps a bit.
