Hi I have been given the option of starting Fulvestrant on its own or taking Fulvestrant with a new drug as part of a trail. The new drug is AZD5363. Is there anyone else on this phase 2 trail?? If I decide to take Fulvestrant on its own how successful it is and side effects etc. I feel very alone at the monent and no one to talk to. My friends who had cancer have since died and I feel alone - even my family don’t listen to how I feel. The hospital is waiting for my decision either way. If I go on the trail I will have 2 monthly scans, monthly appointments with oncologist and monthly blood tests so I feel would be more closely monitored. Has any one please got any advice on doing a trail. I am 4 years now with stage 4. Apprix 2 years on tamaxfon and 2 years with lextrozole. My lungs are still stable but cancer has grown in my breast. They have also done an biopsy recently and my cancer is 50% less responsive to hormoral drugs now. I am 4/8 whereas I had been 8/8. I feel that time is running out. I feel I should do the trail but feel scared. Please advise if possible. xxx
Hi Gigli, I’m not on this trial but I am on a trial and have also had Fulvestrant so maybe I can help? If yours is phase 2 then this means that phase 1 was successful enough to continue, which is a good thing. Not all trials are successful in the first stage. I don’t know your trial but I would guess it’s a double blind so you are randomly assigned an arm, maybe with the trial drug plus Fulvestrant? Or just Fulvestrant?
Fulvestrant injections are really not bad, a little painful but I felt really good on them with no side effects. Get the nurse to inject very SLOWLY, mine was experienced so I had no problems. Like you I have been through all the hormonals so they didn’t work for a long time sadly.
I can’t advise whether you should do your trial. Just read all the literature and ask lots of questions until you are happy. You do get incredibly well monitored though, my trial which was a phase 1 has been very successful and I’m just starting cycle 17 with a recent scan result of 50% decrease in my mets. Good luck, thinking of you x
Hi. thanks for reply. Great news about your trail with 50% deduction. I have contacted the hospital and told them I would like to do the trail. It is 50/50 if I get the new drug anyway as I may get the placbo. Feeling abit better about it now. I will let you know how I get on. xx
