I recently switched from Tamoxifen to Anastrazole as I am now post menopausal. I was fortunate with the Tamoxifen in that I only experienced minimal side effects such as some joint pain and the sweats. Can anyone advise me what side effects I might expect now I am taking Anastrazole please.
Hi Mac123,
I haven’t been on them for long, about 8 weeks, and haven’t had any side effects yet, for which I’m very grateful! On another thread on here people said they were having hot flushes etc, which is one side effect I’d really hate, having had such a miserable time with them when going through the menopause. I’m on the Accord brand, which a fewladies mentioned they were on and hadn’t had any side effects up till then. I checked at a branch of a local pharmacy that they usually stock Accord brand, and they said to always ask for it by name before leaving my prescription and they would ensure they had it for me within a couple of days at most if it wasn’t in stck at that moment. As all is well on this, I’d prefer to stay on it unless and until things deteriorate.
I did have a lot of hair in my brush this morning, the second time I’ve noticed that, so I wondered if I might be getting the thinning of hair mentioned on the leaflet - but it might just be the time of year. Also mentioned in the blurb is feeling sick and diarrhoea; this was something mentioned when I was on Fosamax years ago, so I’m taking Anastrozole late in the evening as I did with Fosamax just in case. Which reminds me, Anastrozole can also thin bones, which is what I used to be on Fosamax for - I was sent for a DXA scan just after I was put on Anastrozole to act as a marker during treatment with it in case of osteoporosis. I showed as borderline and I’m to have another DXA scan in 2+ years’ time.
I’m feeling fatigued most of the time, but as it’s only 3 weeks since my mx it could be that or the Anastrozole could be adding to it.
Hope you don’t have much in side effects,
Jo
I have or shall I say had been on Anastrozole for 8 weeks and had minimal hot flashes and joint pain.
However, I developed Posterior Capsulary Cataracts. Am currently exploring cataract surgery and now left to figure out what to do next as far as hormone treatment. Beware, the labeling says to report any vision changes. By the time you notice any vision changes these cataracts are already formed. Both my eyes now have cataracts. One eye went from 20/20 to 20/25. In This eye I have noticed no change visually yet, but the cataract is still there. The other eye went from 20/30 to 20/60. I called my eye doctor when I noticed the blurry vision and waited maybe another week for the appointment.
