Hi all
Just a bit of advice please. I am 44 years old and quite large breasted (34JJ) so have always found it difficult to do a self breast exam. I am notoriously lumpy and bumpy and have had two lumps and lymph nodes removed in the past. Anyway, on to today. I have recently found a lump in my left breast. Different to anything I have found before. I can only feel it when lying down. It is a raised area that does not move about 1cm wide and about 3cm long top centre of breast going towards my nipple. It is quite prominent when examining with the palm of my hand. I have had a period and it has stayed the same. What occurred to me today was that last June I had a recall on my mammogram to have a compression image and ultrasound on my left nipple. All was felt to be clear. Could something develop in that time? Any advice would be gratefully received xxx
Dear Rach, my advice would be to get any new lumps and bumps checked out. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope it turns out to be nothing
Hello Rach,
Know exactly what you mean, it’s so hard to know when to go in when we’ve always been large and lumpy and we too easily tell ourselves we’re wasting the doctor’s time. We’re not. Friend is a gp and she told me once that she would rather see 100 people with nothing wrong than miss 1 who needed referral. Go along to put your mind at rest.
Some clinics offer the option of going straight back to them if you have been before, does yours do that? (Not that I think there’s anything wrong! I know less than you do). Just that if it does you could cut out the “middle man” and spare yourself at least a week’s worry.
Love Caroline
Hi Rach,
I just wanted to echo what has already been said. Definitely get anything new checked out. There’s no point in having it lurking in the back of your mind… Peace of mind is a wonderful thing that many people on here are waiting for!!
Go on then, give your GP a call. :smileyhappy:
Best of luck, and hope it turns out to be nothing, love Mel. xxx
Well what a morning. Decided to phone docs, got first appt. He wanted me to go to breast clinic. I have private health so asked if he advised me to use that. He said yes to be seen ASAP. Phoned hospital and have been booked in for an appt with my consultant tonight at 5.30. Hopefully my mind will be settled sooner than I thought !!!
Thank you everyone xx
Thanks Mel. As I am lumpy bumpy I am expecting nothing, it’s just this one feels different to the others. Will check in later xx
Appointment over all ok. Just benign thickening of the breast. Part of getting older. Thank goodness. Feel like I have wasted doctors time a bit, but relieved it’s all clear.
Good luck to all of you lovely brave ladies xxx
Rach, that is FANTASTIC news!!!
I LOVE to hear the good news stories. Thank goodness you can now forget about it and move on.
Best of luck to you for the future. Take care, love Mel. xxx
