advice! .. arm bit strange and mosquito bites

The avon stuff works. Its the skin so soft dry oil spray but it has to be the blue one. i’ve used for years and told loads of people and they all swear by it.
Good luck with arm

Hi FizBix - Lots of us have written to you about the lymphoedeama in your arm on the thread you started about your arm in the undergoing surgery category. Just mention this as there is lots of useful info there, and knowing you I think you would have written something if you have seen it. Very best of luck when you go to the physio. Sarah xxxx

Hi all

Have been getting really confused as started 2 threads - sorry

Will put this under both …

It has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous - having seen GP, got referred and then seen Onc who said there was nothing wrong with me I was a bit emmbarrassed to turn up today at the Lympho clinic… but the bloke was very very pleased to see me and is running a training programme !!!

Have to go 3 times - theory, practice in exercises and massage techniques and relaxation! you were right SLSSS - and they measured my arm

OH was in shock as it has just hit home to him …he kept saying for how long … ALWAYS !!! No more heavy sessions down the gym followed by a nice steam bath …

Anyway - am posting the things they tell you do to - I hope I’ve translated them right …
TO DO:
avoid being on feet with arms at sides for long periods
avoid long exposure to sun and heat (NO HOT BATHS!!! - I NEARLY CRIED)
wear long sleves and avoid tight clothing
no rings, no watch on bad arm (I WAS WEARING THEM!)
no heavy lifting
every so often lift up your arm and sueeze a fist a few times
do the specialisd exercises every day - 30 minutes!

AVOID INFECTIONS:
wear rubber gloves for all houehold and garden work (I HATE THEM)
be careful re: burns, injuries, insect bites even though they ar superficial
take blood pressure and injections etc. in other arm

am going next to be trained

still a bit confused by it all - hard to take it in
lots of love

PS Went to bed again! after a magnum - which I didn;t enjoy - they had no crisps… seems to be my defence mechanism

I panicked about lympho because I had a bilateral and so have no good arm (made some of those exercises a challenge I must say)

I went to a good garden center and bought myself a pair of cotton gloves that are dipped in rubber and thorn proof so I use them for all diy and gardening. No good for washing up but the OH does that … phew.

As for no hot baths, god no. I suppose you can soak feet etc but its not the same.

What did they say about massage? can you have one of those instead?

hi verti - i always want to call you vertigo! - I’ll TRY and remember to ask about massage next week (I’ll write it on my shin!) lol … love FB xx

PS I have had a couple of hot baths - unwittingly perilous! - shame I didn;t have a celebration in the last one! I LOVE baths of an hour … I will miss them … when he joyfully told me that showering in slightly cold water was a good idea I was STUNNNED

In that case ask him about having a jacuzzi followed by a plunge in a cold pool. A swedish friend told me about that. Would that be OK if you kept the arms aout of the jacuzzi?

I did in once at The Sanctuary in Covent Garden. There should be a BC day there. It’s ladies only, really relaxing and if there was a BC girls only day then none of us would have to worry about scars or prosthetics showing, now there would be an idea. Some things only for once treatments finished though :frowning:

you can call me what ever you like BTW

Good luck with sorting this out and did you remember to get the insect repellent, they are still out there waiting for tasty dishes like you!!
Take care

Verti - have to avoid both extremes of temperature so hot followed by cold plunge would be a no-no I think …

… also - can’t have hot baths with the arm out … I asked that - the body gets too hot …

mmmmmmmmmmmmm irritating isn;t it! love FB xx

Lilie - i have my insect repellent - so I smell for lots of different reasons now! love FB xx

Hi FizBiz,
