Advice Needed

Hi there Everyone,

I found a lump at the end of October and went straight to my GP who refered me to the breast clinic. I went on Tuesday and they thought it was just a cyst but when they drained it there was a small lump left (about 2cm in diameter) The doctor did a biopsy (which has left me royally bruised and tender). I was told that I would not get my results until next Thurs/Fri so I could ring for them as it was the Christmas period and they didn’t want me to have to wait.
Last night I noticed that I was losing blood stained liquid from my nipple which put me into panic - I rang one of the emegency numbers that were on the leaflet to be told that it needed checking and I am currently waiting for one of the breast care nurses to ring me back. In the meantime I have received a letter saying need to go back to the hospital for a follow up appointment. Could they have got my results so quickly? I am in total disarray. I don’t know if this is a positive or a negative.
I don’t really know what I want to hear but need to get this all out of my head and see what people who have had similar experiences think.

Thanks in advance for your help
Ruth

When I had my biopsy they could tell me there and then that the lump was abnormal - just not whether it was cancer or pre-cancer. Friends of mine were told straight away that they had cancer, so yes, they can get the results that quickly. I hope that by now you have had a phone call from the BC nurse to set your mind at rest as to what is going on.

Best wishes
xx

Hi there. My mum had a core biopsy on Wednesday, and they told her exactly the same thing - it was part fluid, part solid, and they said they can’t tell her one way or the other what they think it could be. She has to wait until next Wednesday. She is going frantic, and so am I.

Hi Ruth

I hope you are finding this thread helpful. It’s not at all unusual to worry in your situation, as I’m sure you realise. As well as the support you are getting from the forums you might want to phone our helpline and talk through how you are feeling at the moment.

The helpline is run by expert nurses who will be able to give you the most up to date information and sources of support.

You can find out more about the helpline at breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=1777 on this site.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

Hi Ladies,
sorry you are going through the mill waiting for tests results etc. i found it very helpful to discuss my biopsy with the nurse on the helpline (
see above). Although the nurse couldn’t say if my lump was cancer or not just talking it through helped calm me down. Hope you both get good results. The waiting is the pits.
cheers

Hi Ruth

Hope you have heard something by now. The waiting for information is the worst part of all of this.

As RoadRunner has said above, yes they can get the results that quickly - I was told 30 mins after my biopsy that my lump was cancerous.

Please let us know how you get on. And as others have said, making use of the helpline and various publications can be helpful.

Hi all,

I rang the helpline and they were very good - really settled me down.
I eventually got hold of my BC nurse who said that the bleeding from my nipple could be due to the trauma from the biopsy and that the letter was probably triggered automatically as I had been for a boipsy. I wish I could say these comments made me feel better but they didn’t. Trying to be positive can be so difficult sometimes. Thank you all sooo much for your support I’m so please that I found you all. I’m just looking forward to next Friday when I can get my results and find out what the next step will be - if any.

Love

Hi Ruth

I tend to agree with the BCN, as I had very similar after my first set of biopsies. The first 6 biopsies left my whole boob black and blue due to a massive haematoma and swollen to about twice the size! I had a bloody discharge for about 2 weeks after the first set of biopsies, I guess that was because my tumour was ductal and some of the fluid must have drained from the haematoma through the ducts??

My follow up appointment came in the post 2 days later, although I was phoned before that appointment and asked to come in earlier. That was because they had missed the tumour (it was only 3.7cms so not that large I guess and easy to miss?) and I had to have 4 x USS guided biopsies before finally being diagnosed August last year.

Good luck with your results.
