Hi, I posted a while ago regarding a thickened area I found in my right breast. I was refered to my local Breast clinic and had my first appointment within 2 weeks. I was a little suprised when after the mamogram the doctor marked 2 areas if intrest. I had an ultra sound then a FNA and 3 samples taken by a ultra sound guided core biopsy.
I went back a week later (my 40th birthday ) and to my suprise I was told by the Consultant that they were not really sure what was causing this thickened area.
The samples showed some inflamation in the cells but no infection. The consultant asked for me to have another appointment in four weeks and said she wanted to see me herself.
My appointment is on this Thursday and I haven’t slept a single night since being told I needed to go back.
I have also notice an area about the size of a thumb print below my nipple that looks a little like a burn scar it has lost colour and is a pale pink and sinks in when I lift my arm up.
I keep telling my self I’m just being paranoid , but as it’s getting closer to my appointment I’m getting more and more concerned.
I’m so sorry to bleat on but I have read quite a few of you ladies started with a thickened area, and not lumps.
Any advice would be grately appriciated.
Im sorry to go on as I know my worries are nothing compared to what alot of you ladies are dealing with.
Please don’t apologise for worrying! The awful time of not knowing, and waiting for appointments is hugely stressful, and I think everyone can identify with that - I know I certainly do. For me, once I had the diagnosis, it was more a case of ‘right, let’s get on with it’, and then worrying that I hadn’t got my next appt. date through… so I understand completely where you are coming from.
My symptoms were a lump, so I can’t offer any advice or anecdotes about the symptoms you are experiencing, hopefully someone will be along soon who can - but I couldn’t read your post and not respond, if only to let you know that I’ll be thinking of you, and to try to give you some moral support, if nothing else.
Good luck for Thursday, I hope you get some answers, and it goes without saying that I’m praying for great news xxx

Hi
Probably all of us have gone through that waiting time and it is an incrediably anxious time so what you are feeling is natural. Our imagination finds itself in a position to run riot and we look to all the dark senarios we can think of. During the day you can do things that divert your attention but the night allows your mind to focus on your worry and it will be a massive worry.
My Bc appeared as a lump so I have no experience of thickening but what I can offer is that if it is BC there is a massive amount they can do these days and we are all here to support you. Thursday will provide you with some answers. For me, and everyone is different, once I knew I had BC I knew what I was dealing with and how it would be dealt with.
I really wish you the best for Thursday.
Take care

the darn waiting for results etc are terrible but you do know they have done biopsies and they are not showing breast cancer cells, otherwise they would have said that rather than, they are not sure what is causing the problem.
Remember the clinic you are attending is a ‘breast care’ clinic and not an oncology clinic so this again would indicate its a breasty problem rather than cancer problem.
Hope they get to the bottom of things for you, I hate the power the mind has over our lateral thinking with the stress of this illness so hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Sidnib,
I am one of those you may have read about as saying my breast cancer started with what the GP described as a thickened area - a mass, but not a lump. Unfortunately mine was breast cancer, but they consultant had no problem in diagnosing it as such after a mammogram. Your’s is obviously not so straightforward even after the ultrasound, and the biopsies. So fingers firmly crossed for you and hope that all goes well at your appointment on Thursday. I have no idea at all what you might be looking at but do come back adn tell us how you get on. It is a shame you didn’t post earlier or I would have said do go and talk to your GP to get some help to sleep. If it goes on for you like this it is best to see your GP 'cos it isn’t going to help you if you are not getting sleep.

Thank you so much for your replies.
It so kind of you to take time to reasure me.
I think your right and it is just the panic going in to over drive.
I dont really have any one to talk to this about as my daughter is only 16 and I dont want her to be worried for nothing, and I dont live with my partner, but if I even mention my appointment to him his eyes fill up and he looks terrified. So I dont want to upset him needlesly either.
When I told the girls at work I had to go back one of them just said “oh lucky you another afternoon of work”. I just couldn’t beleive any one would think like that. So I just don’t talk about it to anyone.
Once again thank you so much Ladies I cant tell you how much it means to be able to just let some of this out.
Best wishes to you all. xx
