I has a lumpectomy last wednesday along with some lymph node checking. I am now in limbo waiting for the dreaded results on 16 Feb. I was recovering fine and removed my bandages on wednesday as told to do so. One of the bandages was slightly stuck which i did not realise along the lymph node scar - well what came out from that scar was unbelievable, loads of blood and fluid - i was really scared. Managed to stop bleeding etc and went to doctors next day who were not too concerned and re bandaged it up only for it to continue to leak. The nurse I saw is not sure whether it is infected or not but gave me antibiotics to take just in case to cover me as it is weekend. I am not sure whether to take them or not and was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if it is infected what symptoms would i have. I hope someone can help . Lv Melx
I think if it was infected it would be hot,red and painful. It sounds to me like ongoing drainage from the wound.Your GP has seen it so dont worry-just keep an eye on it.
Hi Mel.
This is not a nice situation for you.
I would take the antibiotics as even if you are not infected they will do you no harm, just make sure you do take the full course even if you think there is no need as no further symptoms develop.
It would be worse to become poorly with an untreated infection.
Keep an eye out for feeling flu like or having a temperature and if you do even if on antibiotics seek medical advice.
Am sure things will settle soon, take care.

Hi Mel,
I did get an infection which wasn’t picked up and landed-up back in hospital on IV antibiotics. If I were you I’d definetely take the full course of antibios, it may not be, probably isn’t, an infection , but if there is any doubt I’d take the tablets to prevent possible development. As Tracey said they will do no harm.
Hope you feel more comfortable soon, Julie
