I am 5 years post lumpectomy, axilla clearance, chemo, radiotherapy and 12 months Herceptin and am still on Arimidex until Jan 2010. I was told that I had a particularly aggressive cancer so am pleased that I am still here and back to work
My question is whether anyone on here had a recurrence after stopping Arimidex. I can’t wait to come off it but am aware that there is the possibility that it has only been suppressing any rogue cells rather than have killed them or even that there was nothing left to treat after the chemo anyway.
I have got the choice to stay on the Arimidex for longer if I want but not sure I want to do that.
I am not dwelling on this continually and am back working and leading a normal life, it is just something I would like to know more about. Nothing I read will influence what I decide to do, I just like to know as much as I can, I was exactly the same during treatment, having to know the negatives as well as the positives about everything. It just makes me feel more in control.
I would appreciate hearing about any others who may have a similar history and how it worked out for them
Hi, I was on tamoxyfen for 5 years and them I would have taken arimedex for at least 5 years. My onc said 10 years treatment was the norm now. I stopped arimedex cos I got a new primary (this time triple neg) and had another mastectomy.
Good luck and well done for getting to 5 years.

I have had lumpectomy, radio therapy, didn’t need the chemo so refused it as 2 out of 3 oncologists said no?? That was a scary time!
Taken Arimidex for 4 years now and not only ache and feel heavy limbed, but also seem to feel depressed and negative generally quite often though not through dwelling on the cancer, or don’t think so. Back at work immediately after the op and working/living my busy life as normal. Is it an SE of the Arimidex? Anyone out there felt as if they were fretting about daft things and generally feeling lack of confidence/even unfounded jealousy at times? Is it just me?
Anyone out there stopped taking their Arimidex or whatever else was offered at 5 year stage? They say because I had most aggressive form of BC that I will still have to take a similar medication after I stop the Arimidex at 5 years after op stage! Will it be safe to stop it? I’m a bundle of questions, sorry. New to this forum girls.
