After chemo has finished

Hi all
I had my last chemo (TAX) 4 weeks ago and I still feel like C**p. My body hurts all over and I am still taking painkillers every 4 hours just to get through the day!!

I saw my onc yeaterday for my radiotherapy planning session and mentioned it to him and he just smiled and said unfortunately this can take months to ease off.

Just wanted to know has anyone else had this experience as I have 2 friends who have both gone through chemo and didn’t have this experience?

Fed up

Hi viv

I had my last Tax last week and to be honest feeling ok. Still a bit ‘fatigued’ but will be expecting that over coming months and will pace myself as I think it will take around 6 months for chemo to get out of my system. In respect of pain etc that has all gone and I am not taking pain killers at all. its ok for Onc to say what he did but I can imagine it being so hard - when you feel you get to the ‘end’ and in fact its a living torture.

I have RADS to get through yet - and I belive again that will take its toll but again I think ‘fatigue’ rather than pain - it doesn’t sound right to me to be in so much pain that you need painkillers - is it joint pain? can you discuss with BCN? xxxxxx

Gosh viv no wonder you are fed up , still being in pain and no point of reference to reassure you that you are on the mend. I have my sixth chemo tmrw, which is my last int 3 fec 3 tax course . I felt rubbish for a week after each fec, rubbish for two weeks after first tax, rubbish for a week after second tax but then great for a week. However in the last four days I feel like have been hit by a truck again, and not knowing why or how it will pan out makes it much harder to deal with.
That cancer counselling trust article is really good on post treatment and basically says expect to have a period of convalescence for both mind and body to get back on track. Have a read maybe. And I agree ask your bcn or the ladies on the help line as they are much more in tune with how we feel than the oncs can be. Good luck. Xxx

HI TORS

Looking forward to when treatment over, and preparing for it is helping the time go - what is this article you mention please ?

"…That cancer counselling trust article " thanks

Hi Viv

I had my last Tax the beginning of March and have only just stopped having ankle swelling. I do still get achey, but not sure how much due to tamoxifen. I have been told that the effects of chemo can go on for a year!
