After lymph gland removal

Had surgery 7 weeks ago to remove breat tumour and lymph glands. Having probs with inflammation/infection and now also lots of bruising on the arm. I am not sure if this is normal or not and wondered if anyone else was having these sorts of problem with the arm in particular. I have anitibiotics/antiflams etc and have just started chemo - but am getting paranoid as more things seem to keep cropping up?! Thanks Patsy

Hi Patsy

Welcome to the forums. Whilst you are waiting for the other forum users to reply with their experiences you may find it helpful to give the BCC helpline call and talk to one of the trained members of staff. The helpline team comes from a variety of backgrounds, so callers get to talk to someone who has an understanding of the issues they are facing. They are able to talk about both practical and emotional issues surrounding breast cancer and breast health problems.

The number to call is 0808 800 6000 the lines open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Kind regards
Sam (BCC Facilitator)

Hiya Patsy

I had lymph nodes removed too, my arm was fine untill I started Chemo then I got lymphodema. Nothing as serious as you have, but they said it would calm down once the chemo was finished. Have you seen your surgeon or breast care nurse about your arm, apparently if its bad you can be refered to physio and they can help.

Hope everything goes well.

I had a mx two weeks ago, my arm was (and still is but getting better) bruised all the way down to my elbow on the inside, and I am bruised from under my arm to my waist.

I had chemo before my mx, but I was told that the bruising is because of the chemo. I am still draining fluid too, also another SE from chemo.

Funnily enough, until 2 days ago I had very little pain at all but now it really hurts, across my chest and my arm too. I suppose this is normal but I wondered why it has taken so long to hurt this bad.

Good luck with the infection and your round of chemo.

Hi P

OMG that sounds really bad, mine is just a slight swelling in comparison. Have the hospital see the brusing etc. surely there mist be something they can do to make it better.

Round no 6 of chem nearly finished (its tablets at the mo) only 2 more to go Yay.

Hope everything else is going ok… with the arm etc you dont need anything else.

Angela
