After surgery
After surgery Hi,
I had my mastectomy Thursday 7th June.
I had high grade DCIS so Mastectomy was my only option, I’m not going down the path of recon just yet.
I was in hospital just three days and at this moment in time, I feel fine…apart from one thing which is driving me up the wall…
The blinkin’ sort of tuck thing under my arm…
Now, my nurse did call it something, which sounded like Dog…thing…but everytime I move my arm it rubs against this little mountain peak which has some stitches in it and it’s driving me mad.
I seem to be getting the feeling back under my arm and I must say after doing my exercises it feels great…no problems so far…but whether the feeling coming back is ‘over-heightened’ so rubbing against this peak is over exagerated, so-to-speak, well I don’t know.
The nurse said it would flatten eventually, but does anyone have an miracle cures for this annoying little thing which is turning into a big annoying thing…
I’ve tried wearing a silky vest top and even tried covering it with a plaster, but no luck, it’s just so blumin’ annoying.
HELP…thanks
Linda
Hi Linda
I had an immediate DIEP recon and at the edge of my tummy scar I had a bit that stuck out and I was told they called it a ‘dog ear’. They have since extended the scar round and cut it off. After 3 weeks I was told to tape all scars with micropore tape to stop the scars from rising up. Don’t know if you would be able to tape it down with that?
I don’t know if that’s any help.
Hope the rest of your recovery goes well.
Love
Beverley
post op Hi Linda
Don’t know if it will help in your situation but I was given an Avon hand cream tube by the breast care nurse to rub on the scar, its the one with silicone in. I think it is actually called breast cancer hand cream in the new catalogue.
I am 5 weeks post mastectomy now, scabs have all gone, and I had a puckered lump at the front, but that is subsiding as the days go on.
My chest wall is starting to show my ribs etc. now so seams lumpier
than it was straight after the op.
Hope you get rid of you annoying lumpy thingy soon. You are doing really well to even look at your scar so closely after just a couple of weeks.
Love Helen
Thank you Beverley and Helen.
I will have a look for the cream Helen; thanks.
I have heard you can have the ‘dog ear’ removed after a while, but I’m hoping it will go down on its own …the thought of surgery again…well…grrrr.
Linda
