aggressive tumour found after mastectomy for DCIS

Hi - just wonder if this has happened to anybody else? I had high grade dcis and a mastectomy was recommended as it was a large area including nipple and I have /had big boobs. Surgeon sent me for snb - came back clear so op went ahead. I had mastectomy, immedaite recon and reduction on othes boob - in hospital a week and delighted with results - had dressings off on Friday and felt life was great and back on track. After I had dressed was told that path lab had found a small but very aggressive tumour - grade 3 in the removed boob - so now I am waiting to see oncologists - re chemo - - in 4-6weeks - can’t get my head round needing chemo if my lymph nodes ere proven clear and tumour is totally gone - any ideas? Also any way you can get body prepared for chemo - diet etc . I’m usually a cheery soul and have been thus far but not at the mo…x

Hi Chesby

I think it is probably because they hadn’t known it was there. There is a possibility that there may be a small area in the other breast that they also cannot see, so the chemo should kill off any small areas that might be there.

I had my mastectomy 2 weeks ago and have to have chemo, better safe than sorry I say.

Not sure if any of this is right just guessing, but they like to make sure they have got it all.

Lots of love

Hi - met with oncologist today - am now in a quandary as to whether to go for chemo - sure i am low risk - tamoxifen or the like definitely on the cards - and maybe both - don’t know which way to go and the decision is mine - help!! how are you doing Andii - how did you decide to go for it? C xx

Hi

Don’t want to have it but I am, I could refuse but if it came back as a secondary somewhere I could never forgive myself. I want to see my boys grow up and the only ( vain ) thing putting me off is loosing my hair.

It’s a big decision, will you worry if you don’t have it?. Do you mind loosing our hair if you do?.

Were your nodes clear, and did you have good margins? if they were and you did radiotherapy might be best for you. Did they give you that option?.

Sorry I haven’t replied sooner but you forget where and who you have posted to.

What are your thoughts now you have had more time to consider it.

Let me know.

Hi Ann - am going for it - infact I start FEC on Tuesday -don’t think hair loss will bother me too much - when it starts dropping out going to get OH and daughter to shave it off - I often wear little woollen hats I bought in Morocco - and folks roung here are used to that so am going to see if I can find a summer version - tried tying a scarf on but I look like an ageing desperate hippy - so I’ll stick to hats - radiotherapy wasn’t an option - anyway am feeling positive as I have stocked up on pineapples ice lollies soft toothbrush etc Will keeo in touch - started a thread on chemo line to see if anyone else having chemo round about 15th July - found a few buddies - care to join us? love Chebsy and good vibes - Chebsy x
Have you got start date…we CAN do it !

Hi

Should be starting with you on Tuesday but it looks like it is going to be delayed, just want to get on with it now.

Well done for making the decision it’s only for a few months and then we can get back to normal. Will join your other thread to keep up to date on how you are getting on.

Love and hugs
