alcohol

Hi, Since my secondary diagnosis in my liver last June I have had just the occasional glass of wine and only then when I have been out but I would love to have a glass of wine as I used to and wonder if anyone else enjoys a glass of an evening. Love Lesley xx

Hi Lesley,
we have a glass each evening with dinner, if we have friends round we will have a couple. Ian has never been a drinker but as an ex bar owner I have always enjoyed my drink. That was what drew attention to my condition I could only manage a few and was blotto. My best days for a drink are chemo day Friday. Taste changes Sun /Mon so don’t bother. I asked my onc if it was allowed and he said if I could tolerate it to go for it.
Enjoy.

Thanks very much Debs. I don’t intend getting legless but I really fancied a glass of red. Love Lesley xx

My onc (who is half French) said the worst thing about chemo was that it made wine taste like mud. In fact I don’t agree - I thought it made it taste like rancid iron filings…

Glad to say that the taste buds got pretty much bad to normal a few months after chemo but I find I really can’t manage more than a glass at a time these days, which makes me a cheap date I suppose.
My daughter suggested a solution - which I’m doing my best to follow - drink less wine but drink VERY GOOD WINE.

love to all tipplers

I would find it very hard to give up my red wine but do try and stick to weekends only now. I could not get legless these days and can’t remember the last time I had a hangover but I know it lasted at least two days…

I’m not sure I can give up my red wine either but limit it to one glass every few days now rather than most of the bottle! So far chemo hasn’t put me off the taste of it but it may still do I suppose. I don’t have liver mets though, not sure if this makes a difference

I’m loving your coloured sheep Jenny!!

Hi

Like some others chemo changed my taste buds. I can enoy any alchol anymore. I did enjoy a drink but I have noticed that my husbands alchol consuption had dropped because he doesn’t have a drinking partner anymore.

We used to go to the pub once a week but we never go now ( I strongly object to paying more for weak lemonade than the cost beer!).

Still now the winter is ending perhaps we can venture out to the cinema or garden centre! Gawd I do sound old!

Jennywren, I haven’t noticed a posting from you in ages, how are you?

Carol

my mistake, it should read can’t enjoy alcohol

Hi Lesley

I don’t have liver secs, and have the problem with taste buds. Getting chemo’s on days 1 & 8 draws it all out, so I don’t drink in the first two weeks of a cycle as it just tastes awful!

However the weekend at the end of week 3, I enjoy a few glasses on Fri and Sat nite, nothing mad. My team said it’s fine, I don’t see why I shouldn’t enjoy the nice things in my life, and a nice cold glass of white is a very nice thing in my opinion!

Nikki

I am on my second glass cos I got upset at the Wendy Richards program.
Cheers.

I don’t have liver mets but have gone off wine while on chmeo.

The only alcohol I now find acceptable is champagne. Sainsburys have a very good one right now…half price at £13.99 from £27.99…perhaps this should be in the gormless thread.

Cheers to you too!

Jane

I’ve always enjoyed a few glasses of wine, except for week 1 after chemo, it just tasted horrid like most things.

I asked my French Onc if drinking could have been a contributory factor to getting breast cancer and he said categorically, NON! He said if you feel like a drink then have one.

Anyway red wine is supposed to be good for the heart and the arteries isn’t it, so it is actually good for you - well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Cheers ladies

I am well Carol, how about you? Haven’t seen you post for a while either. Is that because you are technophobic?

I still enjoy a glass or two of wine - but much prefer white these days - used to like red. I have liver mets (among other mets!) but seem to tolerate it ok. I reckon its too late to do me any harm, as long as it feels ok.
