Alcohol

I have my surgery tomorrow, what is the general rule regarding a drink before surgery. After the day I have had I could do with one, but dont want to if its risky.

Thank you xxx

The Ward sister sent me and another two ladies out for a drink the night before my mastectomy! We were in the ward and had been admitted that day! It was just across the road from the old hospital and she told us to be sensible. It was so great to get out of the hospital and it helped to take away the stress and strain on the day and week ahead. Just be careful and you should be fine. I am sorry that you have had a bad day. Thinking about you stargazerlily and will be holding your hand tomorrow when you are in theatre. Hugs, Val

Hi stargazerlily,

I had my mx 5 weeks ago, and the evening before had a few glasses of wine to chill out. As scottishlass said just take it easy and you’ll be fine.

Good luck for your surgery,

Take care

Drink lots of water before you eventually go to bed. Being nicely hydrated makes it easier for them to get the anaesthetic cannula in.

Hi. I was also “let out” the night before my mx and had a couple of glasses of wine. Drank loads of water before the wine and loads more up until midnight. Op went well and no ill effects from the anaesthetic. Enjoy and good luck.

My anaesthetist told me to have a glass or two of wine before going to bed the night before my second op. Doctors orders, so what could I do?! I didn’t feel any worse after the op than I did after the first one when I had no alcohol (I was sick both times…). She said it would help me relax and it did.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow and enjoy your wee tipple if you decide to have one. Drink plenty of water too as Choccie says.

Hi, my surgeon just told me I could have a drink or two but not to get drunk the night before my mx and recon as I would wake from the op with the worst ever hangover! Remembering that you can’t eat or drink on the morning of surgery so can’t rehydrate x

Hi ladies, thanks for your advice, I went out and had two and I feel fine this morning, it did me the world of good.

Luckily my surgery is not until the afternoon, so I can drink water up until ten!

Hugs xx

Glad you had a good time last night. All the best for this afternoon. It will be good to get it over with as it is the waiting around that is the worst bit. Hope you make a speedy recovery and will look out to see you posting when you are back on your feet. Val

Thanks val, it would be good if we can get clear margins this time, heres hoping. Time to kick butt on the cancer me thinks lol

All the very best for you op this afternoon. Glad I am not the only one that enjoys a drink.

I have been seeing my chineses doctor to help my body recover from surgery. chinese medicine was developed to help the warriors recover from battle, and one of the common battle wounds was across the chest into the armpit. So he has prescribed a herbal tablet that was developed centuries ago to help that area heal. And quess what, i have to take it three times a day with a glass of wine!!

Doctors orders–thats my sort of doctor.

will be thinking of you this afternoon

Hope all goes smoothly for you SGL - glad you enjoyed a few glasses of wine, it’s the little things isn’t it

Thinking of you today, you poor lady you’ve been through so much.

Take care xxxxxx
