I had my last radiotherapy appointment today and that’s it end of treatment. Can’t believe this day has finally come - have got a bottle of champagne for tonight. I’m not sure how I feel, scared I think as I’m not having any follow up treatment after this just regular checks.
I’ve not had a period since starting chemo and I had zolodex to protect my ovaries. How long did everyone’s periods take to come back after chemo had finished?
I finished my radiotherapy 2 days ago and also feel very relieved of not having to run to the hospital every day. It seems that your whole life is revolved around the daily appointments and it is so nice to not have to think of that now. Just to be checked regularly by Oncologist now and hope that it never returns.
Well done and congrats bet you can’t wait to crack open that bottle. I also had Zoladex for the same reason as you and I’m wondering how long it will take for my periods to come back. I finished my chemo beginning of November so it’s early days yet and I have absolutely no idea what’s going on in that area. I’ll be having rads starting in Jan as had op 4 weeks ago so have to wait for healing.
I’d also be interested to see what responses you get to your question.

Dear Judet1
Well done. I completed the radiotherapy in September and it was wonderful not to have to do that trip to the hospital each day. It is a bit scary, though, and I miss the supportive chats with other women there and the oppportunity to compare notes. I am now working away from my home and so can’t even easily keep in touch with friends I made during the treatment.
I found it difficult to sleep during the treatment and had long wakeful periods in te middle fo the night when the only productive thing to do was get up and do the ironing! This gradually improved after the radiotherapy stopped - I’m still not sure if it was the radiotherapy or the tamoxifen, to be honest. But, I sleep better now and feel more relaxed.
I posted a discussion about pain and discomfort I have had since the radiotherapy finished but have been reassured that this is not unusual and probably due to some damage to nerve endings. I would welcome any feedback from others about this. How long did it last? Did you take painkillers? What helped?
It’s nice not to have to go to hospital anymore but I’m lucky because the hospital is 10mins drive away from me so not too much of an inconvenience. We were joking about me wanting to take my hospital gown home and wear it for xmas day as it was just so stylish!
I have a feeling that it might take a while for my periods to come back - I’ll be excited when they do as that will mean I will be able to have another baby (although that is some way off in the future, can’t think about it now).
Well done on finishing treatment, its a good feeling. I finished in November, no periods as yet for me, but I am not complaining (Im 45). Good luck for the future.
