Hi you all
Has anyone had an allergic reation within seconds of starting Taxol. I am having pallutive care for advanced breast cancer and started on Tuesday with Herceptin…which I will have every three weeks and Taxol every week for twelve weeks… But I had been infused with Taxol when all hell let lose…I wondered if anyone else has had a similar expeience.
I have had Taxatere before but only managed two lots before it made me very ill and spent five weeks in hospital…/Taxol is in the same family and I my have become sensitised…what do you think?
Take care

Hi there
Sorry to hear about the reaction you had with Taxol. I had 4 taxols at two weekly intervals.
During the first one I had a very odd reaction and it had to be stopped. I thought my head was going to explode. When they started it again a few hours later very slowly I was ok. Was also alright for the remaining treatments.
Wondering if you had a cocktail of drugs like I did before the Taxol to help stop any reaction.
I have heard from others that Taxoatere can sometimes be difficult to tolerate.
Wishing you all the best
Alison
Hi Alison
Thankyou for your input. You are right I have a had a cocktail of drugs for the last five years. I think my poor old body is abit feed up with all the stuff I keep pumping into it. But needs must.
I am off to see my oncologist on Tuesday to see if we can come up with a new plan of action. They was talk of me being rechallenged…I think that means they will give it another go but with large doses of steroids 36 hours and 24 hours before the Taxol. But I am going to try and enjoy the weekend and fill my time with good friends and pleasant thoughts. Have a nice weekend. Take care and thanks again.

Hello Onetit,
I feel for you as I had allergic reaction with TAXOTERE (once every 3 weeks) on my first session and had severe rashes ,like measles, all over my body.I had to have antibiotics, then 1 week hospital admission too re:hickman infection, then oncology had to change my taxotere to TAXOL instead, which is administered 3weeks on and 1 week off.So far, I am okay with and managed to have 3 sessions. This week is my off week then it resumes next week.I wondered if it is still the effect of TAXOTERE from your previous session with allergy.I am having TAXOL on its own as I am triple negative, hence no herceptin like you do.
What does your oncologists advice?

Oops i forgot to say that 1hr before my TAXOL, they give me Steroids,Dexamethasone IV and also anti hestamine as my 3 pre-Taxol medication.Do you have any pre-chemo medication given to you at all.?

Hello Veeluz
Thanks for your input.I am disscussing what we do next with my oncologist on Tuesday …when he comes back from holiday. Options may be try again with Taxol …have a different chemo…or try another combination. I am a bit concerned as this is the fifth type of chemo I have had problems with…I am not sure how many more I have left. We will just have to wait and see.
In answer to your question…yes I had all three pre-chemo medications before my first Taxol infusion.
Thanks again. Take care

Hello onetit,
Had my chemo session today,so im a bit dopy due to my antihestamine IV but i had a good nap this afternoon. Now numbness on both my arms, which normally happens on the first night/day then it goes…squeeze balls are my answer.one on each hands…Good luck on your oncologist discussion .They had to change my drugs beforeand that was counted as my 1st cycle out of 6 cycles.Starte my 3rd cycle today so nearly halfway…Sometimes are body becomes so sensitive on the drugs and cocktails that go with it that we just have to let them know so they can find slutions.Good luck. All the best.
