alternative treatment to chemotherapy

I have stage 2 breast cancer and recently underwent surgery to have a 1.8 cm lump removed from my right breast as well as one sentinel node and 4 others from my right armpit.
There was no vascular invasion and all nodes were cancer free.
Bone scan, CT(body scan) and PET scan were also clear.
My cancer shows oestrogen and progesterone receptors and is HER2 negative.
I have been recommended to have 8 sessions of chemotherapy which I have declined. I am just opting for radiotherapy.
Is have changed my diet to an alkaline rich one and am going to treat my cancer using alternative medicine.
Is there anyone out there who is doing the same thing?

Hi Sharondix,
I’m 54 and my breast cancer was very similar to yours. a 1.9cm lump and 4 lymph nodes removed all clear, no vascular invasion. I wasn’t offered chemo but had 15 sessions of rads and declined tamoxifen. I have made extensive changes in my life as feel my breast cancer was a direct result of 2 very stressful years previous to my dx.
I have gone onto an alkaline rich diet, cut out big stresses, ie teaching!!learning tai chi, meditate, exercise, see an homoeopath and have shiatsu. I’m a year from dx and doing well.
I felt I needed to take an holistic approach to my health so I could boost my immune system as much as possible
If you want to pm I’d be happy for you to do that
Best wishes

I was dianosed with BC on Thursday 17th December. I’ve just had a second biopsy on another area and am awaiting to find out whether that is cancer aswell.

The problem is I really don’t yet understand the stage I’m at or anything as I was too upset for them to give me too much information. I ended up going to a BUPA hospital and paying for the second biopsy as I thought it would be through quicker and I asked the surgen to operate on me (I’ll have to pay ) on 23rd December.

I too have been looking at the alkaline diet and have known about this for some time but didn’t realise that my eating habits could lead to this problem.

I don’t want to have surgery now or chemo I’m very afraid of the process. I look at the celebraties who’ve taken the surgery route and think if there was an alternative out there they would surely take it.

I’m not comfortable with the statisics on the chance of cancer returning. I wish I could go it alone in a clinic that could look after me but I really wouldn’t know who to trust.

Dear Chrisy, You need to find out all the information regarding your cancer before making any choices. What grade, stage, whether it’s spread etc etc and talk with the medics. Then once you have the information find out all the statistics of the various treatments. I was scared about surgery but it was really okay although I had a very small tumour and just had a WLE.
It is a very scary time for you but you do need to hear all the information and then make decisions based on that. Don’t rush into anything and take someone with you for support and another pair of ears. Try to take each day at a time and once you know all the facts it will get easier.
If you want to PM me feel free.
Best wishes

I’m going back today to find out the results of the second biopsy. I think I can cope with surgery but they don’t seem to know the extent of that as yet. I asked what grade and they said 3 so I’m assuming that’s a fast growing tumour as he said older people usually have grade 1 and can be treated at times with medication.

I panicked last weeks and wanted someone to operate straight away which is why I went to the private hospital but the NHS surgeon said I have 3 months to decide as I heard it. I haven’t told anyone, well only one person who can’t be with me, as it’s Christmas and I don’t want other people to worry about me when they can’t actually do anything especially this time of year.

I’ve been reading websites about alternative options but there is so much out there it’s confusing and it’s taking over my life, which is natrual obviously but I have to work too.

Hi Chrisy,

I have put for you below the link to BCC’s publication regarding surgery for you to read, I hope you find it useful.
