Hi Debz
I had a Diep3 years ago. A few months later I had a lift to my other breast. While this was done, some of the nipple was used to make a new nipple for my reconstructed breast. I was very pleased with the result. I had the tattoo about 2 months later. I was lucky enough to have it all done under local anaesthetic so no after effects at all. Despite the scarring I was thrilled to bits to look “normal” again. I know there are lots of ways to make a new nipple. Have you been told which you are having.

Hello Debzz
sorry I have missed this in past. My recon (TRAM flap) is 10 years old and it was followed by an uplift to other breast which worked really well. I later had a nipple made from skin from my inner thigh (not sure if they are still doing this - have a friend whose nipple was fashioned as part of her recon. Bizarrely, we had our tattooing done together, which was a lovely experience!
I am very very happy with the outcome, and hope if thats what you are having done, it works equally well for you. I was warned about the risk of loss of sensation to the ‘well’ breast because the nipple had to be moved up, but I honestly haven’t found that to be the case at all. The weirdest thing was how very upstanding the breast was after the uplift - looked like a 16 year olds, but then soon settled down to the shape of a 40 year old!
good luck!
Monica
